The eight of us would not hesitate to stay here again. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were nice and clean. We stayed 4 nights in the lodge and it was great. We even had a fox come up on the porch one evening. They have a continental breakfast , but if you want more then go to the Roadhouse resaurant in town (about a mile) for a great and large breakfast.

I was traveling with a group of 3 friends, en route to Denali. Darlene was very hospitable and helpful. The lodge was very comfortable with a wrap-around porch outside. We did not come to fish. Because of complicated travel logistics we hired Darlene's limousine to take four of us from Talkeetna up to the Denali train station ( approx. 3 1/2 hrs). She provided soft drinks, cheese, crackers, fruit, etc. and a lovely smooth ride chauffered by a friend of hers who has a chauffer's license. It was a hoot and a lovely, fun experience and I would recommend it highly. If only we could have taken it all the way to North Face Lodge!!!

My husband and I stayed in Cabin 3 and loved it! Our cabin was spotless and comfortable. I regret that we didn't get to meet Darlene and Howard. However, their daughter was friendly and very welcoming, and we enjoyed watching her grandchildren on the grounds. I suggest the previous review take a lesson in tolerance and kindness. I love that Darlene and Howard's family pitched in to run the lodge so Darlene and Howard could enjoy a much deserved break. YEA FAMILY!! I smiled every time I saw the children (guests and grandchildren) playing games together on the lawn and having the time of their lives. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL.......gorgeous hanging baskets on the wrap-around porch, nice view of the river, as well as a distant view of Mt. McKinley. The Susitna River Lodge was charming, as was the magical town of Talkeetna. We are already planning a return trip!!

Our stay in one of the cabins was not memorable unlike our time in other locations in Alaska. The cabin accommodations were clean and adequate but nothing special or unique. It was like a modular unit with the exception of the logs covering the walls. We did not find the hospitality that other reviews mention. Maybe the owner was away while the daughter and grand children were left in charge. The cabin did not provide enough hot water for more than one person to take a hot shower and with white mini blinds it is impossible to make the cabin even remotely dim at midnight or two in the morning in July. We also felt that the grand children should not be in control of the television all evening when paying guests are in the Main Lodge Lobby. There were guests who would have enjoyed quiet time or a channel other than Disney at 10:00 at night. The volume was also rather loud if someone had been staying in the downstairs room. In the morning several people would have enjoyed milk with their cereal but no milk was available prior to the office opening time, maybe a small fridge could be installed so that milk for cereal and coffee would be available.

We stayed there for three days and it really began to feel like our second home. There is an amazing view of the mountains from the river on clearer days and we took great pictures. We loved our stay in Talkeetna! Thanks, Darlene!
