Eye of Denali Inn & Suite

positives: the suite had plenty of room, available bikes were great

cons: no soap, no toaster for the bread that was supplied, couch was stained in many places---definitely needs a new cover, or better yet a new couch

Eye of Denali

Our less than favorable impression of Eye of Denali matched that of happyb27. We stayed in The Denali Suite. If you go, take air freshener to mask the petroleum fumes, a blow dryer, hand towels, milk, cereal, a toaster, orange juice and a bar of soap.

On the positive side, the suite was well lit and well stocked with butter, eggs, jelly, coffee, and paper towels - and those same tired Costco muffins that happyb27 mentioned. We didn’t notice the trains even though the tracks were very close by.

On the negative side – the breakfast supplies were lacking, the place seemed a bit dirty, the allegedly clean dishes in the dish drainer weren’t very clean, the dish towel was gross, the blinds were broken/balky, there is no TV or WiFi, the Purell Hand Sanitizer at the bathroom sink looked and smelled identical to the Joy dish soap in the kitchen. The information provided at check-in directed us to go to Talkeetna Travel if we had any questions or needs. When we went there and asked about a toaster, we were given a blank stare.

Late one night, we were awakened by the sound of vacuuming and cleaning in the room above us.

We will not be returning. As advertised, Eye of Denali is not a hosted B&B - and that was obvious and unfortunately leaves us thinking the place is a bit neglected.

We had a great visit to Talkeetna in August 09. We really enjoyed the town. The Eye of Denali was perfect for us as it was walking distance to everything in the town. They have free bikes for you to use which was a big hit with the kids (and the adults), there is a long bike trail that passes right in front of the driveway. We were blessed with 2 very clear days and enjoyed seeing the mountains and walking out by the river in the back yard. The basement suite was comfortable for our family of 4. You could hear a bit of noise from the upstairs rooms (walking around) but the room was clean and the price was affordable. The suite has a kitchen so you can cook your own meals if you are on a tight budget, but there are also many restaurants to try in town. I would definately stay again

This unhosted inn's best attraction is that it is one mile from town.

I rather resented paying good money for a night's stay and then be asked to wash up my dishes when I left, especially since it was clear that my toliet had not been washed properly after the last person's stay and it was up to me to do the washing!

The smell of diesel greeted me at the door and tired Costco muffins waited for me in the frig.

There wasn't a hairdryer, nor shampoo/conditioner--just a bar of soap with someone else's hair on it.

Every step taken upstairs could be heard downstairs.

Not a restful stay.

We had a great stay at the Eye of Denali in Talkeetna in January. Although the weather was terribly cold outside we were cozy and warm inside. This large (3 bedroom) cabin was perfect for our family and the price is right. It has a large open style living, dining kitchen area perfect for hanging out with family. We had fun cooking our meals and having family time There are nice big windows that look out onto the river and the Mt. McKinley. It was really beautiful! I wish we could have stayed longer and I hope to come back again someday. Next time hopefully in the summer so we can ride the bikes that are available for guests to use.

We (three couples) were only able to stay one night. This was the best place we stayed in week of travel prior to a cruise. It was clean, comfortable, and convenient to Talkeetna. Breakfast was an added bonus.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful getaway weekend in the Eye of Denali apartment (downstairs from the B&B rooms). The apartment is spacious and sparkly clean with a full kitchen, separate bedroom, and living room. It is close to town, but in a quiet location. The wonderful local travel agent who booked it for me showed me the B&B rooms upstairs and they are cozy and warm with a comfortable shared living area and full kitchen! We will definitely stay there again!!
