From what I have been told, this place is your typical Alaskan local place to eat. It was great! It is basically a burger place, but they are really good. They have a lot of local brews to try along with things like caribou burgers. A lot of climbers pass through here. If you are in the area give it a try.

Me, my friend Dan, and his friends Paul and Ruth visited the West Rib on July 13 2005. Dan and I stayed in Talkeetna for a week, fishing for Salmon and trout in the area. Dan is a brain surgeon and psychiatrist in Denver. Also visiting for 2 days from Denver, Paul is a neurologist and Ruth is a speech pathologist. I run a boutique real estate and environmental consulting business in Pennsylvania. To sum it up, we are not a real roudy bunch.

Having just returned from a very successful day fishing, I had a small glass of private scotch I had brought with me when I was told to jump in Paul's car to find a place to eat in Talkeetna. We had not been to the West Rib yet, so off we went. In my tired and excited daze, I walked in with the glass in my hand, with about half an inch of scotch-water mix in it. We were seated, our drink order was taken by a very grouchy blonde, and when she returned to take our food order she asked if I had bought the drink at the West Rib. I replied No, Sorry, I just kind of walked in with it and there's not much left and I'll drink it if you want.

Our waittress demanded that I pour it on the ground or drink it, so I tossed down the mouthful and sat back, and apologized again. She took our food order in a very grouchy, unprofessional manner, and then left.

We all looked at one another and asked What did we do to deserve that?

I got up and asked for another waittress, which we were told we would get.

Two minutes later a woman with long dark hair approached us and said that she was prepared to call the police if we did not leave the West Rib immediately.

We did leave, happily. I have filed a complaint with the Alaska State Police because the West Rib staff made a false accusation against us, namely that we were asked to leave and would not do so. We left as soon as we were asked to. We were asked to leave because we asked for a different waittress. We spent our $182.00 at Cafe Michele, around the corner, which was excellent in every way, and especially the service.
