This property is a very modern lodge, with very little atmosphere. Rooms are comfortable, as long as it is not warm, then you will have a problem, as the rooms do not have a/c. Hotel is very overpriced, we paid just over $300 per night and faced the car park, not the mountains. I do not suggest paying the premium for a room facing Mt McKinley, as during our stay it had not been visible for 19 days. Only 20% of guests ever see Mt McKinley. If you walk the grounds use mosquito spray, they are huge in Alaska and aggressive. Eat in Talkeetna, especially at the Roadhouse, the most amazing breakfast we, and everyone we spoke to, had ever experienced. Flightseeing is hit or miss with the weather, but we found it an incredible experience, despite the fact that most of Mckinley was "socked in". Talkeetna can be seen in an hour or two, so if you're planning any longer, you had better have prior plans.

We (mom, dad & 2 teens) stayed at the TAL in late June 2006. We arrived by train. The bus picked us up, and a seperate truck collected our luggage. We checked into our room and our luggage showed up shortly. It was very nice not to have to deal with claiming and hauling our luggage ourselves. We loved this hotel. The lobby reminded me of a ski lodge. Even in the middle of summer, the huge fireplace was a welcome sight. Beyone the lobby are great views of the town of Talkeenta and Mt. McKinley (on a clear day). I wouldn't pay extra from a view room though because if the mountain is out, you'll want to enjoy it from the enormous back deck anyway. While you're here, you've GOT to go into town! The hotel offers a convienient free shuttle. The restaurants onsite are very nice too. But, you've gotta eat at least one meal at the Talkeetna Roadhouse! There's also a post-office and a laundramat in town if you need them. Try to take a flight seeing trip while you're in Talkeetna - the views are AWESOME! We wished we could've stayed longer!

When we saw the brochures of the Lodge I immediately wanted to stay there and I was not disappointed when we arrived. The lodge was spotless, the rooms very comfortable and spacious, the food out of the world. Imagine eating a meal from their restaurant on the Balony and looking towards Mt. McKinley at 10pm, words cannot describe the beauty and ambiance. The staff were attentative and soon sorted our needs to eat restaurant food on the balcony. Would thoroughly recommend this lodge for anyone who is going to Talkeetna.

We paid more that we should, thinks ritz in New York over Christmas and that will give you and Idea. The Lobby is great, huge fire place nice couches great place to lounge in the evening after a good dinner in the Bistro. We stayed here one night trying to get a look at Denali... no luck mother nature rained us out. You are 2 hours from the park so there is not much to do other than the small town ot Talkeetna. The rooms are very basic for the price maybe a holiday in express. Overall we found it over priced and even though it is the number one hotel in talkeetna I would skip this on my next trip to Alaska.

My husband and I stayed here on May 31. We paid extra for the "mountain side" room in the main lodge. While I would definitely stay in the main lodge again, I wouldn't pay extra for the mountain side room as you can't control Mother Nature - it was raining while we were there and we couldn't see any mountains, let alone Mt. McKinley. After we checked out it stopped raining and the clouds lifted so we returned to eat dinner on the deck before heading back to Anchorage. The view of Mt. McKinley is unbelievable when the sky is clear.

The lodge and grounds are beautiful - everything looks fresh and new. Our king room was clean and bright. The rooms are a bit noisy as the doors are heavy and tend to slam each time someone leaves their room.

Check-in was slow. There was only one guest ahead of us and no less than 5 employees behind the counter. The employees are young, obviously new to customer service, and appeared to be waiting for someone to give them some direction. Several were standing around chatting and laughing while the line of waiting guests grew longer. I'm sure the staff will improve with time.

The young lady at the activities desk was very helpful, although the flightseeing schedule and prices she provided was for 2005. Since it was early in the season, they were waiting for updated information.

We tried to eat dinner at the Bistro our first evening at the hotel but were told there was a 2 hour wait (at 7:30 p.m.). We drove down the street to Cafe Michele and had a wonderful dinner with excellent service. We ate breakfast at the Bistro the following morning and found the buffet to be expensive for the limited items they offer. I suggest eating in the Foraker Dining Room. For roughly the same price, you get a better selection from a menu.

Overall, I would stay here again.

The lobby, deck, restaurants, and some rooms afford an absolutely stunning view of Mt McKinley (weather permitting). Our party of eight had dinner twice, lunch and breakfast each once in the hotel and found every meal to be excellent. Talkeetna is just a couple miles from the hotel. The lobby is impressive. They have an incredilble fireplace in the middle of the lobby, a nice gift shop, wireless internet access throughout the hotel, and plenty of places to sit inside and out to soak up the fresh air and enjoy the views of the Alaska mountain range.

The only thing we found to be sub-standard was the overall level of service and the quality of the rooms. We arrived just as the busy season was getting started. Many of the employees were still in training and seemed to be struggling with the volume of business at the hotel. Our meals did take much longer than necessary and proper serving ettiquette was less than perfect, i.e., appetizers arrived at the same time as the main course and drinks from the bar arrived even later. Consideration of the guests was clearly not the priority of all the employees. Here are a couple of examples. After paying to access the internet terminal provided off the lobby, I had to wait 30 minutes for an employee to log off and allow me to use it. Another example this type of behavior that we witnessed was when a guest came inside to complain about some people that were smoking on the deck. We peered outside and recognized that the people were several employees that served us earlier in the day. No one ever asked them to stop smoking which enraged many guests dining on the deck (it is supposed to be non-smoking facilty). Aside from the mini-fridge and robes, the rooms are reminiscent of a nice Holiday Inn (i.e., linoleum flooring, small fiberglass shower/tub, low quality fixtures and furniture). If you are staying in mid-summer, NOTE that the rooms don't have AC! Fortunately, we were staying early in the season and the temperatures in the evening were just cool enough to make the room bearable.
