Mike is a wonderfully informative, patient and entertaining guide. Pam is a superb and welcoming hostess. 3 days; 100% nature 0 people. A great place to experience the powerful beauty of the Alaska wilderness while still having your basic needs.

We went to Alaska to be in the wilderness of that wonderful country. We saw a lot that we loved. But when we arrived in Caribou Lodge we felt arrived in what we were looking for. That place is wild and wonderful. And far away of civilization, but by plane we flew to there in about 20 minutes. The cabins are nice and comfortable, the whole lodge is just a place to feel good. Mike and Pam are wonderful hosts and very interesting people! As everybody writes: Pam cooks marvellous, every day it's a new surprise how she conjures up that awsome meal under these conditions (everything has to be brought into the lodge by plane). And Mike is such a great storyteller, we had a lot of fun together. And he is a very good guide in the wilderness!! Both are very warm-hearted and interested in humans - after our three days there we wanted to stay for much longer than we had booked for! For us these days were the "heart" of our trip where we made very impressive experiences in nature and with those two interesting people and where we relaxed deeply at the same time.

I too found the lodge on-line and decided to include it in a summer trip to USA and Canada although it required a float-plane journey to get there!.That was just the start of the experience which proved to be wonderful. We landed on the lake in front of the lodge and were welcomed like friends right from the start. Mike showed us to our cabin which was very comfortable where we slept very deeply. The lodge was lovely and Mike and Pam treat their guests like extended family so you really can relax and unwind in the quiet and beautiful wilderness. Mike took us for hikes during the day which were interesting as he explained how he and his family have lived from the land, hunting and gathering, we had no idea, for instance, how many delicious berries grew there .Pam also stocks her larder from town now and produces copious amounts of delicious food all through the day!! Her home-made jams are fantastic and we had never tasted better cranberry mufffins or blueberry pancakes!
Staying with Mike and Pam you really understand what life is like in the wilderness whilst being very comfortable and well looked-after. We found it an ideal place to unwind and de-stress a world away from our normal environment. We would highly recommend Caribou Lodge to anyone wanting an authentic, comfortable and very relaxed place to stay in the Alaskan wilderness.

We found the Lodge online and fit it into our itinerary from Talkeetna. It was a fantastic experience with great hosts, Mike and Pam. They are warm and welcoming; they gave us a great 3 day visit. Pam is an excellent cook and opens her home/lodge to you. Mike is an extraordinary guide and story-teller, from funny to adventurous tales. The cabins we stayed in were clean, warm, homey, and perfect for the end of the day. Just learning how this couple lives in the wilderness was fun in and of itself. We saw geese, ducks, moose, grizzly, brown bear, beaver and more (up close and afar). Stayed in late May, highly recommend a visit!

When you stay at the Caribou Lodge in Alaska you'll find out! With all the awesome reviews already given it is difficult to mention something new. Everything I read I completely agree with. Mike and Pam are remarkable hosts. The location of their lodge is in a stunning and remote area. Pam's homemade food is fresh, wholesome, veggies whatever there is available and always plentiful. Let's not forget to mention those awesome muffins.....

Your stay with Mike and Pam will be an experience of a lifetime especially if you are interested in a true alaskan experience. We learned so much about living in the 'bush' and all the good and bad that come with that. Some things you take so much for granted like a working internet connection, TV, plumbing, always food around etc. The stories about the wintertime are also plentiful and very interesting. Mike is always more then willing to answer all your questions. It was absolutely wonderful to meet these people who are willing to share so much of their life and experiences with others.

The three cabins are simple yet very well equipped. The outhouse is an outhouse, that is part of the experience. Beautiful scenery, the true quiet, great wildlife (which can not be staged obviously). Mike likes to be your guide in the area and take you out on walks. He will tell you tons of entertaining stories about life out in the wilderness.

We stayed for three nights in June 2008 and we still talk about this wonderful experience and plan on going back some day with our children. We are Mike and Pam still grateful for giving us an insight into their life, values and the opportunity to learn about the important things in life!

We often get folks here who fit well, some more than others, your interest in our lives, country, wildlife and lifestyle makes it easy to share. And sorry for being so slow to respond, it was not very long ago we found out we could. Thank you!

This is the 3rd vacation that we have spent at Caribou Lodge but it is the first in the summer. Totally different in summer than in winter, but as always, magical. The lodge is simply set in one of the best views in the world. When there are no clouds, you see Denali, Hunter and Foraker. Of course, there are no northern lights in the summer but in the fall it is a great place to see them. To hear what absolute silence is, this is the place to go. There are 3 cabins, simply furnished, comfortable....No indoor plumbing...as this is a 20 minute flight from Talkeetna up into the mountains. Meals are in the lodge cabin and Pam is a fantastic cook. You can hike...with Mike as your guide, berry pick, fish, or just relax and listen to the birds and the honk of the Sand Hill Cranes as they fly overhead to their southern locale for the winter. This trip we saw caribou, white fronted geese, sand hill cranes by the hundreds and a curious river otter that flopped himself up on the float plane float.

This is the place where we learned how few things we really needed to be happy. It's so peaceful there and Mike & Pam are great hosts who make their home a paradise for those who want to enjoy nature - without ever being disturbed by any unnatural noise.
The cabins are nice and comfortable and kept meticulously clean. Pam's food is really great & wholesome (and plentyful) - just perfect after spending a lot of time outdoors.
There are walking trails from the lodge, e.g. around the lake, and some benches where we sat and simply absorbed the beauty of the landscape. Mike offers hikes for those who want a guide but would never impose if people just want to be on their own.
This was one of our best experiences during a 5-week Alaska trip!

Thank you for your comments, they are appreciated. We some times get so used living here in the silence...we can't hear it. However after a trip out to town...on getting home, the peace and quiet is renewed. Thanks for coming!
