“Great trip!”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

They took care of everything! Pick up, drop off, gear, lunch... everything! We were a party of four, two adults and two kids- ages 12 and 16. It drizzled and/or rained pretty much the whole day and could have been pretty miserable, but we had a GREAT time and stayed dry to boot. This tour is really wonderful and I highly recommend it for anyone. The entree choices for lunch were many and everything we had was really delicious. I was expecting airline food, but was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you to Shelis and crew!

“Great experience”
Reviewed July 12, 2012 via mobile

I just went on the all day kayak & raft trip today. It was great! We were bussed from Talkeetna to Byers Lake about an hour away. We were suited up with rain boots & pants to help keep us dry while kayaking. Matt Wild & Adam Edwards were really nice & very knowledgable about the area & kept us entertained & informed throughout the trip. After about 1 1/2 hrs kayaking we were bussed to Mary Carey's McKinley view lodge for lunch (included in package). Good food. Then we were taken down the street to the awaiting rafts manned by Adam & Paul. We floated down the Chukitna, made a stop at a sand bar for hot chocolate & stretch our legs after an hour or so then proceeded another 2 hours to Talkeetna. It was a very very long day but I really enjoyed it. Everyone at Denali Southside River Guides was great. Thanks everyone for a great day!!!!

“Fun, relaxing trip”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed the kayak/raft trip we took with Denali Southside River guides. My best friend and I booked our trip and crossed our fingers because we really didn't know what to expect. We arrived at the pick up point and only had to wait a few minutes for our guide to appear and we were on our way. The van ride north was full of anticipation and it gave us a chance to talk to the driver and get an idea of what was in store. We arrived at Byer's Lake where we were greeted by a great crew of guides who got us all geared up with splash pants, boots, coats, and life vests. After a short demonstration we were off. The kayak trip around the lake was awesome. We saw loon and a beaver, and once we were out in the water the mosquitos left us and we enjoyed the 90 minute paddle around the lake and up a small stream.

After we were done we loaded up and headed south to Mary's Mt. McKinley View inn for lunch. We pre-ordered our lunch while in the van so it was ready for us when we arrived. We had a chance to dine with our guides and get to know them on a more personal level.

When we finished lunch we loaded up in the van again for a short road trip to the Chulitna river. After another short orientation we divided our group up into two rafts and headed downstream for the 19-mile trip back to Talkeetna. If you are expecting a white-water adventure, this may be too tame for you. The river is rated a Class II so it is quite tame...and long. It took us 3 hours to float back to town and the seats in the raft offer no back support, so by the time we arrived I was ready to stretch and walk a bit. We did stop about an hour in on an island for a walkabout and a potty break, (if you could find a tree), but other than that we were confined to the raft. Our guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable and witty, and we had a great time learning all sort of interesting things from him. I felt completely safe during the whole trip and learned that Paul has over 20 years of experience. All the guides were awesome and made the trip quite enjoyable, relaxing, and fun.

I would absolutely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience some beautiful scenery during a relaxing outing. Denali Southside River guides is a well-organized company and if you take their tour, you don't have to worry about a thing because they think of everything.

“Great day for a Yak/Raft trip!”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

We enjoyed a great day of Kayaking on Beyer's Lake and a wonderful ride down the Susitna River to Talkeetna. Our day started out ruff, (wrong guide group took us to their raft site),but we did get connected with some extra help from the staff at Denali Southside. The weather was fantastic as we had feared rain all week. We heard and saw the loons, 3 gorgeous eagles and had an enjoyable float with our guides. We are looking into checking out the cabins on Beyer's lake.
