“We enjoyed it. Went to Talkeetna specifically for this kennel visit.”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Daughter wanted to do two Dogsled excursions, both a kennel visit with puppies and a helicopter ride to dogsled on snow. We only did the first one this trip but enjoyed it very much. There were about 12 people on our trip. Gerry had a very dry wit but my Husband was cracking up. Gerry totally got me with one of his jokes. Daughter absolutely loved the puppy petting. It seemed very much like they were letting us into the "backstage" where they live and prepare for races rather than a fancier place with bleachers and painted dog kennels. They were totally willing to answer any questions we had. It was well worth the money for us and we bought a T-shirt back at the cafe/office of the kennel.

“Interesting and Authentic”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We were very satisfied with our experience. Jerry Sousa is clearly more comfortable with animals than with people, But once you understand that, you are getting a very real experience with a an actual Iditerod racer where he lives, with his dogs. And that's what we wanted. It's not a Disney experience in any way, shape or form. It's not pretty - it is very real. The dogs are scrawny and bred to run. They aren't cute like you want them to be or certainly like you expect them to be.

We learned so much, asked whatever questions we wanted and Jerry took the time we needed to understand. In fact, our tour ran much longer than expected. There were only six people on our excursion and one of them was a young child who started crying at some point. Jerry asked one of his parents to take him outside. You know what - he said he couldn't focus on what he had to say and I know I couldn't focus on what he was saying. He wasn't apologetic about asking for the child to be taken out, but the rest of us certainly appreciated it.

We saw videos of other racers who did programs with much larger groups who seemed like they were more personable but I doubt those groups got all of their questions answered to everyone's satisfaction. We were happy and would recommend Sundog Kennels to anyone who wants an authentic experience.

“Great working kennel tour”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

If you're looking for a Disney-type ride where Balto jumps up and gives your kid a kiss, this isn't for you. If you want to see real working dogs and build understanding of an unfamiliar sport and lifestyle, this couldn't be better. Keeping quiet, watching and listening really enhanced the experience.

“One word . . . LAME”
Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

Imagine the thrill of riding in a jeep behind a team of dogs. I wasn't sure if the dogs were running away from the jeep or if they actually thought thy were pulling the jeep but either way it was pretty lame. Want to make it better? Have the jeep driven by a champion Iditarod musher who will answer every question you have with a single word. Amazing!! Ask him how fast you're going and he doesn't even have to answer. Since he's a pro he can take one of his hands off the wheel and point to the speedometer. That was a thrill.
After your heart starts beating again from all the excitement you're herded into a cabin to hear a lecture on what it's like to run the Iditarod. That part was interesting.
Then you get to see puppies. How can that be bad? Well, you paid $75.00 per person that's how.
My advice. Chase a dog in your car, read Wikipedia about the Iditarod then go to a kennel and play with puppies.

“The worst tour of our trip. Terrible for kids.”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

If you like an overpriced tour, riding in a crowded bus watching dogs pull an ATV, and having your kids told they need to "shut up or they won't get to see the puppies" this is the tour for you.

It was a terrible experience which my kids left crying. The owner is a grouchy and apparently doesn't like giving tours.

When I told the Princess Tours Desk about the experience they said they have received numerous similar complaints.

I believe in karma as I wish them luck in getting lost in next years race.
