“Pretty Average Pub Grub”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

We'd been here for an alfresco drink a few times so thought we'd try some lunch.

Firstly, although there was only one other table dining the service was really really slow, the waitress herself was lovely we just got sporadic service.

Food portions were huge! My partner opted for small ribs - I dread to think what large are like! They were pretty dry and non descript, definately not enough sauce. My steak sandwich was nice enough although my onion rings were missing (quickly rectified by nice waitress) and nothing was seasoned - according to the waitress the chef was in a bad mood that day.....

We wouldn't eat here again just stick to the al fresco drinks.

“Sp8s Ashburton is my local!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

I keep going back to Speights Ashburton because the staff are so friendly. They welcome me by name each time I enter there restaurant.
Their menu is great and the portions are plentiful. It is pleasing to see families of all sizes and ages enjoying the atmosphere. It is a great place to meet up with the locals too.
Speights Ashburton, you 'rock'!

Cheers Phil

“Nice atmosphere, average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

Fun upscale pub-like atmosphere. The food is only okay but the portions huge. I had a chicken and brie sandwich, which was fine but nothing special . Hubby had a full plate of barbecue ribs (huge portions) but they were very greasy. We are spoiled having had some awesome ribs in the States (especially Memphis TN) and these did not compare. Service was very good and friendly. Lots of beers on tap: they were just drinkable, but nothing to write home about.

“A little Oasis.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

Popped in on a warm afternoon, the beer was welcoming and the historic venue appealing.
This place has a nice outdoor seating area out the back and whilst it boarders the car park and roadway, is sheltered enough to be 'out of the way'.
Ordered a bar snack (nachos) and while it was an ample serve, the toppings were a tad runny; still with a couple of drinks a most pleasant afternoon was had.
The highlight for me was the stunning 'Jess'; not only is she a petite kiwi bomb shell, but polite and prompt with service. Well worth the stop on a busy day.
