I'd agree with the other reviews.I wasn't leaving Orewa for the airport till around 6pm & Richard (without my asking) offered me free use of the room till then-making my last day much more relaxing
Doubtless he was pretty confident that he wouldn't have a sudden surge of guests on a Monday, but he didn't have to do this, & I've never experienced it at any other hotel

This is a lovely & resonable priced Motel, Richard went out of his way to make our stay pleasant, the rooms are big and well appointed & the beds are comfortable, they are a little dated but very clean and tidy, there is also flowers in the rooms, nice touch.
The motel is a short walk to the shops & resturants and across the road from the beach, perfect, we would definantly go back there.

We were met with a genuine smile! We were expected, as we had emailed 2 days previously and asked that a room be reserved for us. Shown to a roomy room, with bathroom off. Main room comprised bed-sitting room area, with table and chairs, and kitchenette area with all facilities. The room was warm, but had an additional heater just in case. Everything in the motel rooms was clean and laid out in a tidy way. Next morning whilst on our way out we we greeted with a smile by a member of housekeeping staff who asked us if we were going somewhere nice. On telling her we were on our way to some hot pools a few miles away, she told us she would get us some towels as this would save us the expense of having to hire them. On her return with the towels, she gave us a vouchewr which enabled us t oget a big discount on the hot pools entrance charge. We were particualrly impressed by this as it had meant interrupting her work schedule which we knew was quite demanding. Later enquiries of the proprieter met with a very frie3ndly and efficient response. We were made to feel welcome at all times we were there. We wished that we had organised our travelling arrangements so that we'd have been able to have stayed there longer.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before committing to taking it. We were asked to look at our room before firmly...

The welcome at reception was exceptionally friendly and warm. He couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating, especially as we had arrived quite late. The unit was very spacious and had fresh flowers and milk. The decor and fittings were very dated apart from the TV, and it is probably time for some renovation. I have a slight aversion to bedspreads that don't get changed and look a bit grubby, but there you go. Overall, the price made it very good value for a 1 night stay.

We have stayed many times at the Beachcomber Motel and have found the accommodation convenient to the beautiful beach and a short walk to all shopping. Adequate, clean, kitchen facilities. Owner/managers Phil and Margaret have invariably been helpful and hospitable - couldn't be nicer. We have no hesitation in recommending the Beachcomber to others, including those whom we know will be traveling to New Zealand from Vancouver.

Just the right distance from the airport to make any Northland destination easily reachable .We were greeted by Phil a very friendly host who soon made us feel at home. The welcoming treatment of Phil and Margaret was what made the Beachcomber stand out for us.
The Beachcomber is in a great situation with a lovely beach just over the road and a few minutes walk to the shops. So dont stay on the motorway, get off at Silverdale and you cant miss it.
Highly recommended as a place for the night or a few days relaxation.

This place is one of those old motels built in the late 70's early 80's which have only had a minimal amount done to them since opening so is now starting to show its age.
The window catches were starting to corrode away in places and the shower water temperature ranged between hot and burning but just right was very elusive.
Also some of the cleaning was a bit lacking with mould and mildew on the roof around the shower area.
However on the positive side the location is good being about 2 minutes walk to the beach and town and at NZ$110 a night for 3 people it was okay value.
So if you are looking for economical but not flash then maybe this place will suit you.
