I came to Ohakune with a group of 6, we decided to go out and have lunch in this beautiful little town. This cafe appealed to us as it was in a handy location. As we got inside the line was long but we thought it should be fine as it was quite busy and we were hungry. We finally get up to the counter 15mins later and the lady at the counter was flustered and all over the place. I gave my order which was a steak burger, very simple right? Wrong!! We all had ordered and they did say there is quite a wait which we understood as it was a busy weekend. Everyone's meals arrived at different times and mine never arrived although I had placed my order first. I then ask a waitress who has to ask another two people before coming up and saying its no where to be seen. The chef is going off her nut yelling at the staff, saying its already gone out. They apologise and I get it to take away as all my friends are ready to leave. I get my burger and we leave. As we are walking down the street I get this rotten smell coming from my burger. It was disgusting and It was suppose to be scotch but This smell and the taste was definitely rotten meat! Very disappointed and have never ever had such a bad experience at any cafe!!! Don't waste your money or time here.

Went to this wee cafe during a weekend up to Ohakune. Cute little place but was overall really disappointed.
Firstly it was extremely slow, im not sure if the girl on the counter was being trained but there is no reason for it to take 10mins for a line of 5 people. The slowness continued as we waited 10 mins for coffees and 30 mins for food.
Coffees were terrible, milk may as well have been microwaved, not frothy or silky at all as mocha and lattes should be. The biggest issue was the breakfast. After the long wait and the waitress coming over with the wrong table's food several times, our eggs benedicts arrived. Luke warm and gross. Poached eggs were overcooked, not runny at all, egg muffin was soggy and the hollandaise that was smothered over everything was disgusting (not to mention the vinegar). The waitress did not ask us how our meals were, we could only manage to eat about half of it
.
I work in hospitality myself so wouldn't have mentioned anything if we weren't really disappointed yet the chef/owner literally started yelling at us when we mentioned we were not happy with our meals. She made a big song and dance in front of a full cafe saying there was absolutely nothing wrong with our meals and telling us to get out, even bringing the rubbish bin out from the kitchen to prove we had eaten some of it .
I have NEVER had a worse hospitality experience in my life and the situation was not dealt with in any reasonable manner. There is no way we will be returning and I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, it's cheap but you certainly get what you pay for.

This is a great new cafe just opposite New World. The coffee is Ozone and the barista is skilled at delivering coffee how you like it. The food offer is wide and varied with lots of old country favorites including the best freshly made meat pies plus club sandwiches, scones with whipped cream and jam and old fashioned cheese cake. That is a pastry base filled with jam and topped with sponge cake.
We sat outside in the sun as Ohakune had its Carrot festival and watched the town go by.
