“Tiny but Clean”
Reviewed September 19, 2012 via mobile

We stayed in a studio unit with a fold out sofa and a queen and a single which was very cramped so I would recommend larger accomodation if there is 3 or more ! Appart from that everything was clean and comfortable ! The drying rooms out back were great for drying our snow gear ! Wifi was available but at a cost and there was a laundromat 2 doors down . Plenty of places to eat on the same street so good location !

Stayed in the "budget" self contained room for 2 nights. Quality of the room was definitely better than budget - everything is modern and good quality fitout. Separate locked units in the drying room was very good - don't usually like leaving equipment otherwise. Short walk to town and also to the Ohakune Carrot along a nice stream. Views of Mt Ruapehu. Only downsides were that the room was not cleaned/made up while we were out - a bit disappointing given room cost was the same or more than a motel room. Dust accumulating on some surfaces in bathroom. A little bit of road noise but we weren't affected. Otherwise we recommend staying here

Thank you for staying in one of Snowhaven's studio apartments. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay, however these are self contained studios and not motels. These apartments are not advertised as being serviced, although clean towels are supplied and rubbish removed daily. For longer stays a service is available upon request.
We look forward to you staying at Snowhaven in the future.

We have just returned from a long weekend in Ohakune, 5 of us staying in luxury bed and breakfast rooms. The house is modern, warm and had every facility we required, with a fantastic lounge with log fire and open plan eating area, as well as a games room.Lynn and Graeme were superb hosts, cooking excellent breakfasts, providing tea with home made muffins and going above and beyond the call of duty to find and book a restaurant for us and organise shuttle transport as well.We felt that we were visiting family friends! The house is situated a short walk only from the centre of town and ideally placed for the Turoa ski fields.

My girlfriend booked a Luxury Bed and Breakfast room at Snowhaven for my birthday and it was better than anything I had ever expected!!

Lynn and Graeme were wonderful hosts and provided us with everything possible to make our stay cozy and comfortable. The accommodation had all the facilities needed to ensure we had a pleasant stay, such as modern furnishings and very good heating (much needed after a day out on the mountain!). However it was the small things that made our stay extra special such as clearing the frost off our windscreen before we drove out to the snow, booking us a table at the best restaurant in town (The Bearing Point) and suggesting a good ski rental place. We even found cup cakes in acknowledgement of my birthday after coming home from a day on the mountain, and Graeme helped me out with thermal wear when I needed it. Lynn is an amazing cook and was very accommodating to our needs.

We highly recommend Snowhaven and can't thank Lynn and Graeme enough for their generous hospitality!! We definitely look forward to seeing them again when we head back to Ohakune!!

My partner and I booked at short notice and were lucky enough to get the last room. And a good thing too, it was an amazing stay! We booked a Luxury Bed & Breakfast and we were more than pleasantly surprised when we got there. The house was newly built, it was cozy, warm, well-lit and open. The breakfasts in the morning were amazing. Some of the best French toast I've ever had! They have a drying room for all your snow gear, a pool and ping pong table and it's not too far from the township if you wanted to mingle with the locals.

Room Tip: Our room was cozy, it didn't have an ensuite but the bathroom was right across the hallway which...

Our stay at Snowhaven was perfect. We were picked up from the station and dropped off there when we left which was ideal as it would have been quite a long walk into the town. The room was ideal for us (a couple travelling with our 4 year old) as it had a double and a single, plus kitchenette which meant we could have breakfast in our room. It is in the centre of Ohakune which meant we were close to all the restaurants etc - ideal as we had no transport. The owners could not have done more - they booked 2 trips for us - one to canoe on the Whanganui and one to cycle the Old Coach Road which were both excellent. There were even home-made muffins in our room when we returned one evening! Our little boy went round to reception each day to say good morning and returned each time with DVDs which he loved. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

We stayed here in January 2012. NZ summer.
The apartment was lovely & clean. Really good shower. It was the biggest kitchen that we had during our tour of NZ. But as we ate out, we did not need to cook!
The owner was very friendly & very helpful. Gave us a map & showed us where we could do walks & what she recommend to see. Also where the best places to eat.
The Tourist Information Centre Staff are very friendly & also very helpful.
We ate at 'The Bearing Point' & 'Powderhorn Chateau'. We highly recommend these Restaurants, the food was superb & very friendly staff.
As it poured with rain one day, we went to 'National Army Museum', which is well worth visiting, but make sure that you go when it opens, as there is so much to see & read. Yes good place for children as well. We went 2 hours before it closed & that was not enough time to see everything.
There are loads of walks to do & so much to see. You can not get bored.
We would go back again in the summer, when we tour or when we emigrate to NZ. As we are not skiers, we would only go in the summer, don't like snow, see too much in the UK!
Ohakune is a lovely place & as a family we felt very safe there.

Room Tip: We had an apartment at the back of Snowhaven, which over looks a river, very peaceful. The front ap...
