The hostel is just a short walk from the beach and an outdoor market. It's also walking distance from the "canal" area where all the bars are located, just over about 1 km. The hostel itself is kept very clean and has ample space for everything. The kitchen is large, there's an outdoor patio space with furniture, a living room area just beyond the front desk and plenty of tables and chairs in the dining area. Breakfast is simple but good. The staff are helpful, friendly, and laid back. It was not at all lonely going alone as I met some great people there to hang out with.

Central Hostel's just a few blocks from the beach, and steps away from convenient stores and restaurants (peaceful part of a residential street, I must say). Its rooms are basic, though spacious. Attended by a housekeeper every morning but doesn't leave the room spick-and-span. We stayed for about 5 days and our floor was never swept. Our room had a balcony where we were able to hang our swimmers and towels. Weak wifi connection upstairs. Brekkie is served until 10AM and has pretty good choices.

Receptionist barely spoke English, and seemed more friendly to other guests who could speak Portuguese.

Not good for families with small kids for they host occasional parties that lasts 'til wee hours. Definitely perfect for backpackers who are up for mingling. Price was jacked up during our stay for it was Carnaval Season. Getting a cab from the bus station (there's a taxi line) to there shouldn't be a problem.

Room tip: Request for a room upstairs. Some weekends they hold parties at the dining hall/common area, could get a bit rowdy.

This hostel has a great location half way between the bus station and the beach. Although it looks old on first arrival it has a large common area, nice kitchen, and good rooms. The staff was very nice and helpful. I would defiantly recommend it to stay.
