The Kilinc in Palamutbuku is an undiscovered gem! One of the best places anywhere on the peninsula for real Turkish cuisine. And great for a relaxed beachside lunch. Go to the far end of the bay in Palamut, past all the other restaurants, drive until the road runs out – and you’ll find the Kilinc in its own little bay where the swimming is warm and wonderful, and the hospitality friendly and uncluttered. My aunt and uncle live in Eski Datca and they reckon the Kilinc is one of the best places anywhere on the peninsula.
Turkan, the smily friendly woman who runs this small unassuming beachside restaurant with her husband, doesn’t speak English. So here’s a few suggestions of things to ask for. Try their Manti dumplings which they cover with yoghurt and a little chilli oil and also her traditional Gözleme filled with spinach and spices and a little cheese. You can take pictures of her rolling the Gözleme out on a wheel. They also do lovely mezze, which vary according to season and what is available. Try her own delicious homemade baklava as well.
The beach is a step or two down from the Kilinc terrace – and it’s my favourite place to swim on Datca. Lovely food, leafy terrace with shade, fantastic swimming, and great value. Turkan’s prices are better than fair. Total bill for four of us this week was 84TL(£24).This included two beers, two ayrans. And more than we could eat! Where else could you have such an amazing lunch for £6 per head. And Turkan brought us tea on the beach. This is my second visit to Kilinc .. and it will not be my last.
