“Great hotel in lovely Turkish town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2014

This is a fine hotel. It is a Turkish hotel in a beautiful small town catering largely for Turkish visitors - why oh why other reviewers feel unhappy with the fact that the staff here were not that proficient in English is beyond me!!How good is their Turkish? Could they not have taken a phrase book with them. Stay in Marmaris if you want lots of English spoken alongside the lots of English visitors. This is a fine hotel. We looked at many of the others and given My Marina's location - right on the sea with lovely gardens - and its well proportioned rooms, I would suggest this is the best hotel in Datca. Huseyin, the owner, is seeking to improve it further by adding suites. The breakfasts were great - and far too plentiful. Our only complaint was there was little fruit. There was some building work when we were there - the new suites. But this was not too much of a problem. The staff were always able to meet our needs well and efficiently - if it did take a small trawl through the phrase book for us to sometimes get those needs understood. We would, and probably will, stay again.

Visited almost daily by prior arrangement with the manager, as our hotel lacked a pool facility. Spent the day lazing in the shade of the palm trees in the well tended gardens, and enjoyed the meals on the lunchtime menu. Staff very attentive but speak very little English and still learning the ropes at the start of the summer season. Had a look at the rooms available with a view to returning next year- rooms very spacious, furnished in traditional Ottoman style with marble/ stone floors, tiles and coloured glass in the door panels, and public rooms with interesting Turkish decor and furniture- this little hotel certainly ticks all the boxes for me should we return again to Datca

Room Tip: Side rooms may experience some noise from the adjacent hotels entertainment/ bar areas. All rooms vi...

We visited this hotel with Anatolian Sky, with whom we have travelled several times. Although advertised as a 4* property, it was more like a 3*. The hotel is supposed to be new, but it is more likely being refurbished. The owner is also calling it a 'boutique' hotel, which it is definitely not. He is also talking about changing its name to 'The Pearl' (it will be in Turkish, though).

Our standard room was very big, with a large double and a single bed. The furniture, however, was definitely past its sell-by date! Loose handles, drawers that stuck, etc. Our bathroom door never shut - no privacy there then. There was no lock on the door to the balcony. Our phone never worked.

Please note: If you are taking small children to this hotel, there is no paddling pool. The shallow end of the swimming pool was, I think, 1.2m.

The breakfast was very Turkish, which could be a problem if you don't like cheese, as no cold meats were provided. Some days you could have omelettes or fried eggs, but in the main it was cheeses, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, yoghurt and honey, a choice of three cereals, and a fruit - mainly watermelon, but occasionally cherries would appear. This was a great shame as the variety of fruits available at the market were amazing.

The only people to speak English were the owner and the manager, which was not a major problem as sign language conveys a lot! In fact, not many people in the town spoke English at all. The staff at the hotel were very nice, but they do need to learn a few words of English, if they want to encourage English visitors.

The town is lovely, exactly what we wanted, with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from in the evening.

The beach is mainly stones and pebbles, with a very narrow band of sand before the sea, then more stones to negotiate before you get into deep water. We found a nice beach at Kargi - a dolmus ride away. Again, quite stony, but you can swim off of jetties, which solved the problem of the stones.

I would definitely recommend this destination, if not the hotel itself.
