Stayed in Dalyan, and could see the rock tombs from my balcony. Never tired of looking at them, lit by the early morning or late afternoon sun, or tastefully lit up at night, these tombs dominate and define Dalyan. Don't go on a tour, get rowed across the river by Dada and friends 4TL return, and walk 5 minutes to the cemetery, where you can view them a little closer than on the river. The tombs are carved into the rock, very high up, how the ancient civilisation carved them, with limited tools, is almost unbelievable. I think its possible to climb up and go in the tombs, but we didn't do this, content to look from afar. (It also looks quite dangerous to climb up there!) On the way back, have a pomegranate or lemon juice or a snack at one of the riverside cafes, run by locals from their back gardens! A must do in Dalyan.

These rock tombs are really amazing and easily seen without crossing the river but we took a row boat over and got a closer view! It was lovely to see some real history. When they are lit up at night you can sit and look at them from several of the restaurants along the river.

Lovely to see some history whilst on holiday and these tombs definitely ticked the box. We visited as part of a boat trip and our guide on the boat had lots of interesting information and was very keen on the subject which was nice.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. Amazing tombs to see carved out of the rock face, beautiful boat ride down the river to view. Highly recommend!

If you take the Dalyan Classic Tour by boat these tombs are included, so you will get the chance to see them carved into the "rock face". The Turkish paupers tombs are considered box shaped as opposed to the more wealthy carved pillared entrance tomb. You may also get the chance at the end of the tour to visit the Museum and walk around closer to the tombs (ask your boat captain if he would add this to the tour, he may not ven charge you) but you will have to pay an entrance fee to the museum.
