“Kaunos Ruins”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

There aren't many Roman towns where you can roam through the site and still see roman pottery and other ancient pieces under your feet.

“well worth a visit”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

The Kaunos ruins can be reached by getting the rowing boat across the river, that itself can be quite a trip. The cost was 4 TL per person. It is about a 20-30 minute walk up to the site, and you are passing quite close to the rock tombs, although they cannot be visited. There is plenty to see in the Kaunos site, but it is quite a large area so allow a few hours.

“Ancient ruins”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Better now they've added a bit more info! Worth a visit ( approx half day), to explore the old civillisation & see the ampitheatre. Yes you can be heard if you sing from the bottom! Really interesting. Go up in the tractor if you can, rather than walk as it's a tough hill ( especially for young children or older people) & hard in the suummer heat! Tractor ride is bumpy but fun!

“Well preserved without too much modern interference.”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

This is an excellent excursion from Dalyan, just the other side of the river. We too got rowed across by an elderly woman who seemed remarkably fit for her years...The price charged is for the return journey. The site is about 30 minutes walk uphill from the landing stage so take water and try to avoid mid-day sun. We were very pleased to see the site was as unspoilt as it should be - none of the modern recreation that, say, Knossos suffered from. What was really nice is that almost none of the site is cordoned off; you are free just to wander and create your own impression of life in ancient times.
En route to Kaunos about 20 metres from the landing stage is a cemetery with, at the far end, a little Engish/American section with the graves of ex-pats buried there. Interesting not least because of how young some of those buried seem to be. The edge of the cemetery wall leads up to a chain link gate which you can open and get a great view of the Royal Tombs.
