“Peaceful hotel in beautiful setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2010

We stayed in this hotel as a family for 2 nights after a sailing week in Turkey. It was a haven of tranquility and a great place for R and R. The rooms were adequate (although for the price of the hotel I had expected better); however they were clean and cool.
The main problem with the hotel was the front of house manager and this has prompted my review. He was the "face of the hotel" and the person who met us as we arrived. His manner was distant and cold from t he start and as we walked in with a carrier bag containing 3 bottles of water (temperatures were in the high 30's and they were the remains of our first week "on board boat") he started his conversation with us by saying we werent allowed to bring these into the hotel. no friendly greeting or smile beforehand!
The conversation continued in a similar vein and by the end of it we felt he was doing us a huge favour by allowing us to stay in his hotel. There was also a problem with our rooms in that we had upgraded oneof our 2 rooms to a superior room and although we had written confirmation (and fully paid in advance) of this, he still argued that the hotel didnt have such a booking. however, he finally relented and gave us the upgrade.
Once past the reception desk however, the rest of the staff in the hotel were great...very helpful, friendly and behaved as though nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunatately we had cause to converse with him again as we checked out and his manner was exactly the same.
I feel the hotel needs to be made aware of this problem, as sadly the initial impression of the hotel is very poor and does not match the quality of the care of the patrons once past the front desk! A HUGE mistake on the hotel's part.

The Dalyan Resort Hotel is relatively new and well designed, it's clean and very well maintained. Our room is described as a family room, but the bed for our second daughter was a put up bed which was squeezed in a small space designed for one bed and bedside unit. The main bedroom was bigger and more comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the shower always had power and plenty of hot water, excellent considering most people got ready for dinner at the same time. The food was also excellent, especially dinner which included a different soup everyday, a salad bar with fresh produce everyday, a different main course selection and sumptious deserts. The staff are excellent, especially the bar, restaurant and pool staff who give 110%, are genuine and very helpful. The management are a little aloof, but not rude, the owner was present a few days and was off hand with children around the pool and not at all hospitiable. One issue mentioned by most guests we spoke to was the cost of drinks, water being more than 5 times the price outside the resort and soft drinks similarly priced. As the hotel has a policy of no outside drinks or food most guests resorted to acting like petty criminals to sneak in water and soft drinks, creating a sometimes funny but unnecessary atmosphere. The location is great and just far enough from town to be quiet, but close enough to pop in for a meal, drinks or shopping. The town feels friendly and safe and has a large range of restaurants, the restaurants nearest the hotel are very nice.

We chose this hotel after a lot of deliberation and review reading. We were after a hotel in a good location, with spacious, clean, comfortable rooms, a nice pool area and somewhere where we could relax and unwind.

Well the Dalyan resort met all those criteria and more. As soon as we arrived we were instantly at home. We opted for a suite as the layout suited us as a family (myself, my wife and 11 yeard old son). The main bedroom was spacious with a minibar and small TV. The 'living room' had a flat screen TV and a sofa bed, which was was always left made up as a bed. Not a major problem as we just had somewhere else to 'flop down' after a hard day by the pool. The sofa bed was ok, but not long enough for any more than a child. There was no bath, but the power shower was just great,
There were 2 air conditioning units which chilled the room to arctic conditions if required and provided a haven of cool after the 40 degree heat outside.
There were 2 seating areas front and back, although the rear area backed onto the front fence of the hotel so we just used it as a place to dry bathers etc as it was not somewhere you could sit and admire the views !

With regards to the wifi .... well, we could sometimes connect if we sat outside the room. Inside, not a chance, and we were one of the closer suites to reception. Even by the pool area it was hit and miss and most folks tended to sit in reception to connect up. Again not a major issue especially as we were trying to get away from normal life for a little while.... so e-mail and facebook could wait !!

The location of the hotel itself was superb. Sitting on the river overlooking the tombs at Kaunos, its not something you just stumble opon very often. The hotel runs a boat to the beach every 'odd' day of the month and the boat trip itself is a pleasure. The 3 hours that you spend at the beach is more than adequate. If you have the energy, you can walk the hour to the other end of the beach and visit the turtle rescue center, its well worth it.

If its historic sites you want to see, then have a chat to Ali the pool boy (an absolute diamond by the way !!) and he will row you across the river so that you can take the 15 minute walk to the ancient city. Again, well worth a visit, but take some money as they charge 8TL for entry. Water is also essential although there is a small cafe there.

Even though we stayed at the Dalyan resort at what I would perceive as peak period, there was still ample room and sun longers abound (no need to get up at 5am to beat the germans !!). The pool area was brilliant. Large warm pool surrounded by lush gardens.

We only stayed b&b and found the breakfast simple but filling. Its typical buffet, but there is an egg station where you can have fresh omlettes and pancakes. We did not stay for the evening meals, but all reports were it was pretty good.

A major gripe in someother reviews is the hotels policy regarding food and drink from outside. Well, we were told of this upon checking in, but it was one of many hotel general policies, so it was not the be all and end all. Yes, hotel prices are quite steep compared to supermarket prices, but they are comparable to any of the myriad of cafe's and restaurants in town. Thats not to say that most people dont smuggle in 'contraband' at some point and I did hear of some ingenious ways of doing this, but I believe as long as you are not blatently flouting the rules under their noses, then you will be fine.

We did book the 12 island tour and mud bath trip with Erkan (the hotels entertainments officer ?). Again, you probably pay a little over the odds, but the 12 island tour was well worth it as you have a small boat with only other hotel guests (and generally a decent bunch they are !) as company. At peak periods, make sure you have confirmation of trip times as they do have problems in organising boats and you may find it being postponed by a day or two.

Dalyan center is about a 20 minute walk away, but there are shops and restaurants within 10 minutes easy stroll. The restaurants are very similar in price and standard to be honest and serve simple home cooked fare. If its michelin star cuisine you are after, its probably not for you. Also, the exchange rate in the post office (PTT in center of Dalyan, open until midnight) was much better than anything back home, so I suggest you take a small amount of turkish Lira to get you by and change stirling when you get there. Avoid travellers cheques though as you can only change them at the bank.

Dont forget your new crisp £10 notes for you visa's when you arrive at the airport !

Overall, we had a great time at the Dalyan resort and would have no qualms about recommending it to others seeking good quality accomodation in a great location.

John, Lynnette and Evan.

Just returned from Dalyan and can honestly report a great holiday hotel and location. We had a room next to the pool which was so convenient,it was very clean and comfortable. Only grouse would be the lack of accessable sockets for tongs and recharging batteries. A few extra down lighters would also be good. All staff were very friendly, especially Ali our pool man who worked such long days and was always polite and willing to help.We would definately return and recommend to others. The walk in to town was just right and only a 10 Lira taxi ride if you could not manage the walk. We enjoyed a good breakfast everyday and could not resist the omlettes and pancakes. The hotel offers free transport to the beach which we used but as the pool was so good we tended to stay there most days. We will be back !!!

Having read a lot of the reviews I have to agree with most of the points raised . This is without doubt the prettiest hotel and setting we've ever stayed in .The gardens and pool area are so well looked after ,the rooms clean and airy. The pool was great , always plenty of loungers and brollies. The river side decking and sunloungers were very welcome , lots of shade when needed. The staff were friendly ( special mention to Ali who looks after the pool and will row you over the river so you can visit Caunos-worth the walk! and Dogan on the outside bar) The bar prices for beer etc arent bad but be careful with spirits,16TL for a good Whisky!! We were B+B and found the selection at breakfast was good , but an extra charge for fresh orange seemed a bit steep . We only stayed for dinner on the first night and whilst the food was good ,the restaurant setting by the pool lovely, we didnt like the buffet style-get there early ! The Turkish bath at the hotel was fantastic and from talking to other guests much better value than the others in town that some of the holiday reps were pushing .
The walk into town was very pleasant in an evening , part of the 'short cut' wasnt tarmac'd but my wife said it was still OK in heels,or you could follow the road . There are several really good restaurants listed on TA and you pass many of these on the way in to town . The Rough Guide to Dalyan is very scathing about the restaurants , but I think they're talking about the ones along the main street near the bars -these are a bit 'eggs on tost ,steek and chips' kind of places so well off our radar .
There are plenty of places to visit , Turtle beach , Caunos , the mud springs , sailing on a 'Gulet' 4x4 safaris -all recommended !
The only negative I have was the 'No food or drink' to be brought into the Hotel rule (we did see signs saying the same at other hotels) . I fully agree that people shouldnt be bringing take away food , bottles of wine etc into a hotel , BUT bottled water ! In my opinion in that heat water is a staple and it is unreasonable for the hotel to charge 1.5TL for a 500ml bottle when the local shop sells the same brand for 0,25TL . A small point and not enough to spoil what was a great holiday ! A lovely resort and lovely people .
Oh, and its true! speaking a little Turkish goes a long, long way !!!

What can I say, rooms were lovely, clean and spacious. The hotel is sited right on the banks of the river and it is truly stunning. Just out of town, so nice and quiet, but only a short walk into town. The pool area is a really good size, so plenty of room, or you can use one of the beds in the beautiful gardens or by the river.
Breakfast is buffet style - very fresh and something for everyone. A turkish bath is a must and my husband went back for a massage which he enjoyed very much.

My husband and I have just returned from a week at the Dalyan Resort Hotel. We stayed in one of the standard double rooms on a half board basis. We booked through Travel Republic and the half board rate was very reasonable.
To start with the positive points - the hotel is in a beautiful and quiet location, but in easy walking distance (10 mins max) to the town centre). The grounds and other public areas are clean and very well kept. The bedroom and modern shower room were cleaned well and the staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Ali, the pool boy, is a real asset to the hotel - he rowed us across to Kaunos a number of times and will always assist you with sun beds and umbrellas. The food both at breakfast and dinner is of good quality.
Now the negative issues - at check in we were told (as has already been reported on this site) that the management will not allow you to bring your own drinks and food into the hotel. Of all the hotels we have stayed in throughout the world, this is the first time we have encountered this policy. This left a bit of a negative feeling - particularly as there is no drinking water provided in the room other than in the mini bar which costs 5 times more than bottles brought in the town. I would really urge the hotel management to reconsider this policy because it didn't encourage us to buy more drinks in the hotel, we were more inclined to go into town instead.
A minor point; the standard double rooms are very small, the beds are not particularly comfortable and the shower is tiny!
In relation to the food, although it is of good quality it is very repetitive, there is little choice for main courses each evening and if you decided to eat late (the meal times are breakfast 8am - 10am, evening meal 8pm - 10pm) you were often left with even less choice.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to a friend, but would make them aware of the issues I have pointed out. With a couple of minor adjustments, it could be fabulous.

Just one point we'd like to make people aware of about money changing in Dalyan. We took travellers checks (sterling). We couldn't change them at the hotel, nor at the Western Union exchange. The only place in town is the bank where they charged us 25YTL (about £12.00) to change £150 - a charge we felt was excessive, I would advise taking plenty of cash.
