Where do I start!
I had never been to Turkey before Dalyan, on this holiday I came with with my parents and boyfriend (who all have visited Turkey before but have been to the rowdier Marmaris and Icmeler areas years earlier) in September 23rd 2013 to October 7th 2013.
Hotel Asur has 3 parts, The Hotel Asur, The Apartments Asur and the Vıllas- Asur and Mirna (named after the owners daughter). We stayed in the fabulous Villa Asur. None of us had been to a villa before and as our first I dont think another anywhere else could beat it!
The Asur Hotel\Apartments and Villas are about a 10 minute walk from the main shopping\restaurant street. The Asur group is family run and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, Mirna the owners daughter was excellent, along with the Thomas Cook rep Haysan. The family let their pet dogs Pasha and Ben roam around the complex, and as dog lovers my family and I were in our element.
The Villa Asur is less than a 2 minute walk from the hotel, it is surrounded by a 5ft brick wall and gates to enter (which are lockable for security) inside the grounds of the villa in the garden there are pomegranate trees, bushes, flowers and cactus plants, a 10m swimming pool with area to sunbathe with sun loungers and parasols and also a dining area with bbq.
The villa itself has 3 floors there are 4 double bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and remote controlled air-con in each room. The ground floor consists of the living room/kitchen/dining area, all open plan, with a small washroom with shower/toilet and washing machine also. The kitchen has all the necessary appliances including fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, oven and hob. The living room has 2 sofas one turning into a sofa bed for extra guests and a large TV with Turkish satellite channels not very many English (but you don’t need to watch tv on holiday really). There is an amazing spiral staircase leading to the first floor where there are 3 double bedrooms 2 of similar size with shower/toilet and one larger with a bath/toilet. On this level there is also a large balcony with dining area which you can get to from 2 of the rooms. Behind a lockable doorway on the 1st floor there is also a staircase leading to a 3rd floor/loft space containing a bedroom with 2 double beds, a kitchenette and 2 small balconies on separate sides with wonderful views of the mountains.
The villa was very luxurious and spacious and wonderful to be able to sunbathe and potter around in our own peace and tranquility- A home from home. Every morning there would be a gardener tidying and pruning the garden and maids every other day who were extremely friendly and efficient.
The Hotel Asur has a pier where you can go to, to sunbathe and watch the boats go by or go fishing (which we did). Some stray cats/kittens live in the grounds of the hotel and so most people catch the small fish for them to eat.
Dalyan itself is not a built up area and mainly consists of small hotels and villas both holiday rental and residential. The restaurants and shops are a short distance away (only 5-10 minute walk depending on how fast you walk). The different shops sell the fake mulberry and prada designer bags and purses for example and also the fake branded shoes such as All star Converse\Vans\Nike etc. There are also shops selling the local Turkish\Dalyan produce such as pottery, fabrics, candles, jewellery, delicious Turkish delight etc. There is a river that runs alongside the resort and all the way down the side of the shops and you can get on a boat here to take you to the many trips that Turkey offers.
There are simply too many brilliant restaurants to mention as they all pretty much served the most amazing food!!! Our favourites were, The Lime, Four Seasons, Medusa, Olive and The White house.
We went to the mini thermal and mud baths a short 25 minute boat journey away and this was as we expected. The thermal baths was just what we needed as the day we went was 4th October and was cloudier and cooler than previous days. This costed 90 Turkish lira (£30 each) for the private boat ride just my boyfriend and I using one of the 'Coop' boats an another 5 Turkish lira to enter (a couple of pound each!!!)
We also used the Asur Hotel's private boat one day to go to the turtle beach although sadly we didnt see any turtles) for a nice relaxing day sunbathing on the beach. You have to pay for 2 sunbeds with a parasol this was 9 Turkish lira altogether (£3 for the day).
We went from September- October 2013 therefore the season was nearly at its end and so was quieter than it would have been in earlier peak season months. Nonetheless there was still many tourists around and if anything it made the holiday a bit more relaxing and peaceful. Dalyan is full of stray dogs and cats and as long as you love these pets you should not be too bothered by them bothering you when you're wandering around. Some of them even chaperoned us some of the way back to our villa. Some dogs have tags on theirs ears and this means that these ones have had their injections from the Dalyan pet sanctuary, but I wouldn't be too alarmed by the ones that do not have these they are all pretty much placid.
Overall, this was one of the best holidays I/we have ever had and we endeavour to return not too far in the future (in fact my mother and father have already booked for next year but in the apartments as villa would be too big for 2 people). I would suggest that Dalyan is not for families with young children as there is not much for them to do. But for couples older and/or younger this place is wonderful and I recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxed and laid back holiday with amazing food and friendly locals!
