Due to a travel agent error we had to do a last minute switch from Crete to Turkey -and ending up saving a boatload of money.

We arrived at the brand-new Dalaman Airport on Onur Air at 2am and took a taxi to Dalyan - we feared the worst when the driver couldn't find the hotel, but I'd made sure we had the phone number and a quick call had us in the right place, with cheerful staff whisking us to our cool family 3bed room.

We spent the next week lazing by the pool/bar (very clean and no problems securing a poolside lounger), visiting local restaurants (uniformly gracious staff), travelling to the Carretta (Turtle) Beach, Snorkeling, sightseeing in the pretty town, occasionally watching the Olympics and generally relaxing.

There was a large extended Liverpudlian family staying at the hotel, and a mix of Brits, Turks and Indians - everyone was nice to be around - no lager louts here.

It's nice to travel to somewhere "different" - the mosques and the call to prayer (never obtrusive) and the exotic food all contributed to a great holiday that we all enjoyed.

One tip: Dalyan is on the river where they filmed "The African Queen" whcih means that between 7pm-8:30pm the mosquitoes can be a problem - take Deet and don't leave the room at dusk without it - we took a nap before heading out for dinner and avoided the problem.

We only stayed for a week and wish that we could have stayed longer. The rooms were very clean and airy. We had a safe, fridge, TV and a/c all included in a very reasonable price. The gardens are fantastic with a variety of well established palms and flowers with plenty of shade to sit in. You certainly feel that the garden lives up to the name of Palmeden. The food was mainly Turkish and was always fresh and well prepared. The pool is large with a childrens pool set next to it and is very clean and well maintained.

The best bit about our stay was the staff. They are all very friendly and have a wonderful sense of humour. They make you feel like one of the family and could not do enough to make sure that our stay was perfect. The manager, Vulcan, was very informative about trips and things to see and do. We were very sad to leave such lovely people but we will be going back again next year.

Staff - Wonderful; Rooms - Excellent; Food - Good; Value for money - Excellent; Location - Perfect !!!

My sister and I stayed at the Palmeden Hotel for 5 days in August 2008. Its a small hotel (~24 rooms) and is set a little way out of Dalyan in a quiet but quaint area. Its only a 5 min walk into the town for restaurants, shops and the harbour. We had a really relaxing holiday - went to the beach by bus and walked to Kaunos (ancient city). The rooms are big and clean with a good a/c system (no extra cost). There are beautiful views from both the hotel and the surrounding areas and the grounds are well maintained. The pool is a decent size and clean and there are plenty of sunbeds. The staff are outstanding; they made us feel so welcome and very much a part of the 'Palmeden family', that we did not want to go. They could not have done more for us to make sure we had a fantasic holiday. We definately want to go back there.

Palmeden , the best hotel in Dalyan , for peace , for best food , and service of course .. We have been for 15 days , and ı still wish to be there now .. It was a real boutique hotel , garden was magnificent , perfectly clean linens and rooms .. What can I ask for more .. The Manager Volcan , did his best .. All stuff was friendly , pool area was perfectly fit to the hotel .. And also there was a kindergarden , which helped us to control our children in the secure place . There was wireless internet access , satellite tv , a/c , and safe also fitted in the room .. Me and my wife already booked for october again , because we felt like we're home ..

We've stayed in Palmeden hotel in August 2007 together with our children. It was like a dream to us. The rooms were big and everything was clean. Especially the dishes were perfect. They generally offered traditional Turkish dishes at open buffet, but they also served European foods too. They even prepared some special foods for our children. They had a nice bar and a beatiful pool. The staff were very very friendly and helpful. Especially the manager was a very nice guy.. talkative, helpful and very very friendly. They organised everything for us. Dalyan was a nice place and Palmeden hotel was very cosy and lovely. It was like our home..We'll go there again..

If you ever have the chance to visit Dalyan in Turkey, do so because what a lovely place it is. But please do not stay at the Palmeden Hotel. Ignorant and unhelpful manager, food uncooked and in some cases raw. Rooms, well what can i say, total disgrace springs to mind. Dirty sheets, towels, floors etc etc. Never again.
