“Nazlihan Hotel booked by Odysseys Unlimited, Newton, Ma”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Part of "Legendary Turkey" arranged by Odysseys Unlimited, Newton, Ma. The Nazlihan Hotel is a Bed-And-Breakfast, far from being 4 or 5 star hotel quality. We can find several places like this to visit in the United States. The bathroom shower had mold and mildew in it (see pictures), and the window screen had two (2) big holes in it (see pictures). There was nothing culturally historic.
Asos, where the Nazlihan Hotel is located is a back-water cove. The travel material emphasized the beautiful sunset we would see. Well, the sunset could not be seen from the cove. All you saw was the shadow of the sun behind the nearby hill. To see a sunset over the water, you would have to travel about 2-3 miles to the top of the hill. We live in western Florida and have routinely seen the “green flash” as the sun dips into the Gulf of Mexico. That is a sunset, not a silhouette behind a hill.

Room Tip: Would not recommend staying at this hotel, nor staying in Asos

When it comes to location - it is right up there. Rooms, however, although not deprived of certain charm, are good only for a very short stay. As mentioned in other reviews - bathrooms are tiny, as are the rooms. Bed was Ok, but call it comfy would be a stratch. While we felt almost impressed with ottoman tiles and sink in bathroom, plush red covers on the bed and wrought iron candelabra in a hall, I could see how in two-three days total lack of space will get on my nerves - we had to step over one of our bags to get to the bathroom. Considering this place is a very old building, I understand there are some constraints when it comes to a room size. Service was a bit of a disappointment and there is no excuse for that.

Please read the review entitled "Awful". It takes the words right out of my mouth. This place has one quality of substance and that is location. Otherwise, it is tattered, so filthy dirt ran from the bath sink faucet, cramped and totally uncomfortable. If you can avoid it, choose another place. The staff treats you as if you were a bother to them. There was a small tour staying at the same time. They ate breakfast first and wiped out the buffet. did the staff replenish for us? NO. I had to ask twice for bread and just stopped after that. this is another Turkish chain that is supposed to have a good reputation. I think their reputation must be for making money but not providing service. My tour told me we were staying at great places. They must not get out much or vet there accomodations. Total waste of money.

Musty, smelly, dark, dank, cramped, tiny little depressing room.
Only two (2) electric outlets to charge your phone, camera, laptop, etc.
Small, hard, lumpy bed.
The air conditioning generator is very very loud, and cycles on and off incessantly.
Closet-size bathroom with a low ceiling and a broken ventilation fan.
The place seems to be run by a group of surly men with the personalities of prison guards. They run a restaurant out of the hotel as well. The food is lousy, and the service is dreadful.
On the other hand, praise is due for the firehose-strength water pressure, and the adorable location on the harbor.
I should disclose that I am not qualified to compare the COST of this hotel with others nearby. We stayed here as part of a group tour and I did not pay for the room, nor am I aware of the cost of the rooms.
If the cost of this room were $85 (65 Euro) I would feel that it’s of average quality. If the cost exceeded $85 (65 Euro) I’d be quite unhappy.

We were staying at Nazlihan as part of a small group tour of south western Turkey -- and not an inexpensive one, I might add. The first room we were shown was at the back corner on the first (second to North Americans) floor. It had a stone wall, which gave it character, but it was very small, dark and had only a tiny window. We requested a sea view room (at extra cost) and it was similarly small with a slightly larger window, but with a view. The room was equipped with spartan bed linens and towels, small tv with a few English speaking channels, some wooden chairs and small desk. There was no wifi. Our dinner was included and it started with a selection of salads - all quite tasty. The main course however was disappointing. To their credit, when they saw our disappointment, they agreed to change it; the second option was marginally better. One rather comical observation was the young waiter who progressively displayed anger, repeating 'What? What?' when he couldn't understand our English.
The setting is the best feature of the hotel. The little village of Assos is extremely picturesque. Were we thrilled with our stay? No. Would we return? No. There are other hotels along the same shoreline with perhaps better accommodation.

The Nazlihan is a converted sea side building and as such has some quirky features. It has charm, a gorgeous outdoor eating area for breakfast & dinner and views, but it also has small rooms, some of which do not have a window at eye level. Some bathrooms have sloped ceilings that make life difficult for taller people. I recommend this hotel for one or two nights only.

Room Tip: If you are tall, try for a room with a level ceiling
