It is a privilege to stay in such a beautiful and old building. The paradors continue to maintain a high standard and provide fantastic settings for their hotels. Enjoy! The breakfasts are a speciality, whereby they try to source local products where possible - we even had "Yemas de Avila" for breakfast! What a treat. I thoroughly recommend staying in the parador.

We had two nights in this hotel in late April 2012
We stayed here on a bed and breakfast basis and overall was a reasonable deal.
The location inside the city walls is ideal as you can walk to most of the ancient city sites from the hotel.
The totally walled city of Avila is unique and the Parador overlooks part of the city walls. Walking trips can be made around a great deal of the city walls. This would be a must see in any visit. Some great views from the city walls.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel service is friendly and excellent.
The bar service is excellent and the bar snacks are very good and inexpensive.
We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent although a little expensive.
We would stay again should we re visit Avila.
There are many restaurants around but not all open in April.

Room Tip: Most rooms in this old but modernised building appear fine and quiet.

Nice historical setting, right inside the old Town of Avila. Clean rooms and friendly service. Absolute great patio just beside the Muralla (fortress walls). Parking available. Enjoy tapas at the Parador!

We visited Avila as part of our honeymoon. We stayed one night and then went onto Segovia having previously stayed in Salamanca (both at Paradors). The walled city was very interesting, but one day is enough here. Our room was fine and the bar and terrace/garden is very nice. The breakfast was great, everything you could think of, but don't eat in the restaurant in the evening. The food was OK and the service good, but absolutely no atmosphere and quite expensive. Being infrequent travellers we were a bit naive and thought this was the best option, but should have gone out and about and tried one of the restaurants in the city. Salamanca and Segovia are both much more interesting with more to do and see.

Had a lovely two night stay at this parador. The rooms were spacious and clean and the location was excellent. We did take a drink in the bar and enjoyed the hotel gardens. We did not take supper here or breakast as the prices were eye watering, 16 euro each for breakfast! Avila itself is pleasant although a two day stay was a little too long for me as there was not a great deal to see and for shoppers it would be a stupendous let down. For me the parador experience was the joy seeing as we got both nights for less than a one night stay in a three star British hotel.

Stayed one night while travelling round Spain. The garden and grounds around the parador are the best features of this hotel. They are large with beautiful trees and sculpture and are surrounded by Avilas impressive city walls. The bar extends out into the garden and it is a peaceful experiIence to sit outside in the grounds. The room was fine in view of the fact that it is much cheaper than other paradors although the rugs in the room were a bit grubby. Avila is a small town which if you are travelling around may be worth an overnight stay or maybe just a day time visit to the walls and churches etc. The corner restaurant in the plaza major was Ok, but DO NOT be tempted to have dinner in the parador. We ignored the other bad reviews because the menu looked good and the dining room fairly inviting. We are not fussy eaters having eaten Cuban food etc on our travels but the tasting menu we tried was truly disgusting. I am still at a loss to know how it was possible to produce such unpleasant flavours from the ingredients used, which is a shame because the waitresses were friendly and keen to try to make it a good experience. It was a painful evening trying not to offend them by leaving it but really none of it was very edible. We didn't try the breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden would be best.
