You have to walk a bit to reach the top, then pass the first gate and you're in the old city (or stronghold). It's interesting to walk on the old streets, pass through arches between old buildings and get a feel of medieval Transylvania - with its guilds and traditions.
The only problems I have are that not all the buildings are well-kept, some are simply abandoned or left in disrepair and that some restaurants look out of place or fake in this historical area.
Check out the view of the new city and the valley from above, it's worth it.

We visited Sighisoara whilst on the way to Brasov. It is a small medieval town with a lot of history! The entrance to the old part of the city is really picturesque! The streets are paved with stones and there is quite a steep hill & a lot of steps to get to the very top so it is not very accessible to pushchairs or wheelchairs. For those who like us set out to visit the places where Vlad Tepes had been; Sighisoara is well worth the visit!

Romania is a wonderful and beautiful country, but of all the places I visited, this is the one that lingers in my mind still. I went summer of 2012 and every so often the memories of the beauty of the place: it's architecture, little hidden cafe's, the general relaxing atmosphere of the place. It is wonderful and should not be missed if travelling around Romania. Very reasonable prices generally. There are beautiful views in many (if not all) directions, and the torture chamber in the tower cellar is worth a climb down.

Sighisoara is a gorgeous city, as it's small, so many hidden history. Every year there is a medieval festival in July. Vlad Tepes (Dracula) was born in Sighisoara. It is a city full of color, it makes you carry yourself in those times long forgotten.
If you are searching for a good restaurant, I recommend Pearl restaurant ( Perla ).

Fantastic place full of history, beautiful views, historical towers, castles and pretty gardens.
There are nice and not expensive restaurant.
If you travel with young kids like myself, you better not take stroller but a carrier there as all the streets are paved with stones and it is difficult to move with a pushchair. Also you might want to walk upstairs to the clock tower or covered sraircase which are not cozy for strollers as well.
Worth a day trip!
