“historic sighisoara”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

was only in romania for 4D/3N and was very glad we were able to squeeze this in our very tight/ short-stay schedule.

officially a unesco site, would recommend this small charming town to everyone. go up the clock tower to see a panoramic view of the city. eat at vlad the impaler's (aka bram stoker's inspiration for dracula) birthplace/ house - don't forget to visit the 3rd floor exhibit! walk up the covered wooden stairs (175 steps) en route the church on top of the hill. stroll around the city and enjoy the colorful and well preserved houses.

in case you are looking for a budget friendly (private) tour, check out http://bucharest-city-tours.com/ . the 2D sighisoara tour which also includes old town brasov (another picturesque town), peles and bran castles are definitely worth the price. quite a steal if you compare prices with other websites! local guide adrian took very good care of us - very knowledgable and patient.

“Sighisoara, an UNESCO Heritage Centre”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

"Founded by German craftsmen and merchants known as the Saxons of Transylvania during the 12th century, Sighişoara is a fine example of a small, fortified medieval town which played an important strategic and commercial role on the fringes of central Europe for several centuries", is written on UNESCO site.

It is the last medieval citadel inhabited from South East Europe, just half on hour by car from Viscri village, where Prince Charles has bought a house. Do not expect to find luxury in Sighisoara, but you will find for sure authentic history and spectacular medieval festivals during the summer. And in between, you may visit the Crafts Towers or the Clock Tower Museum and when you will hear drum beats, go to see and hear the drummer speaker of the city: Tam Tam Tica Ram Pam Pam!

“Homesick for Sighisoara”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I have lived here on two occasions and still have a hankering of homesickness for this area. The Historic Centre is a must-see as it is one of the most preserved medieval citadels/forts and retains much of its 12th Century buildings. Right in the centre in a striking yellow building there is the home of Vlad Dracul, well where he was born, and where you can now purchase ice cream and a drink.

Visiting during July, you will also be able to participate in the Annual Festival with its array of wonderful stalls and unique products.

The views from the citadel are spectacular, the people are friendly and wonderful. The hotel accomodation is excellent and food is also better than your normal Eastern European fare.

“Birthplace of Vlad Țepeș”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

A really interesting medieval citadel in the center of the more industrialized Sighișoara. The entire thing can be seen in two hours if you are pressed for time but best if you can overnight to experience the charm of the place. The clock tower, the church on the hill, the covered staircase, city walls and towers all give it an authentic feel (better still if there is some fog). Use the town as a base for visiting the fortified churches (not monasteries) in the area.

“Very interesting old city”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

I visited as part of a sightseeing out of Brasov. Very interesting and a beautiful place, streets to walk, quiet as it was still out of season. Count Vlad has lived there, interesting as I had been to Bran Castle earlier the same day.

Hotel facilites, including the sister hotel of Casa Wagner, Brasov. I wish I had the chance of spending one night there.
