“Good spot for a couple of wintry days at Sighisoara”
Reviewed January 29, 2012

Rustic décor, hefty solid wood furniture. We were here in the off-season, meaning that we were virtually the only guests. We arrived very early in the morning, and it was no problem checking in early, although the official check-in time was not until 4pm, which seems a bit weirdly late (but perhaps the norm for rural Romania). Perfectly located at the foot of the medieval centre of the city. We had great views from our windows. Staff were charming and friendly, although English could be a little rough, depending on who was at the desk.

Despite the fact that there was a menu in the room, there does not appear to be an on-site restaurant – from what we could gather, another Villa Franka location in town housed the restaurant (?). There were a few small issues with the room, which was generally comfortable, and featured free wi-fi and an inexpensive (!) mini-bar. First, it has not been outfitted with enough electrical outlets; there are precisely none to spare without unplugging a lamp or the mini-bar, which made plugging in a laptop/cell phone/whatever a trick. Second, the doors to the shower were not at all effective, with shower water flowing quite freely out of the shower and onto the bathroom floor where it quickly cooled into massive chilly puddles. The television did not appear to work, although we did not investigate this too thoroughly.

I've stayed for 3 nights in December 2011, together with my wife and with my daugther.

The location of the hotel is perfect, just outside the medieval town. The rooms are nice decorated, the bathrooms are large enough, and everything is clean. Even if they didn't change our towels for these 3 days, I don't think it's a problem to report.

The real minuses are that the villa-pension does not have its own car park (but if you are lucky enough you can fin a place right on the street nearby) and that they didn't serve meals because they didn't have a restaurant (but i believe that it's a problem for those with children).

The Villa in my opinion, keeping in mind those minuses is not a 4 stars Villa, but for sure deserve a 3+ stars.

I wouldn't recommend RUSTIC Restaurant (we've tried twice and every time, the food wasn't as we expected).

We have took also dinner right in the centre of Citadel, at Vlad Dracul House, but i have to mention that is very expensive and is nothing special with the food, even if the location is a great place and is perfectly located.

We strongly recommend to eat at Restaurant Sighisoara, inside the Hotel Sighisoara, also located in the heart of the Citadel. It's a pleasent place with very good food and services, all at reasonable prices. .

Great place. We stayed here two nights in full winter and it was very warm and cozy. The way that the rooms are arranged is beautiful; they really make you feel like it’s the 170’. The rooms are also very clean. We stayed in one of the only two rooms with canopy, and I do not regret at all. The position is also very good, related to the citadel: just next to one of the stairs that leads in. So if you ever find yourself in Sighisoara do not hesitate to stay at Vila Franka.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms with canopy so be quick and mention that you want one.

Unexpectedly we've had to stay overnight in Sighisoara, and we've decided to stay in the same place as two years ago - Vila Franka guesthouse (not to be confused with other similarly names facilities of the same business) located at the foot of the old town. This time we took a somewhat cheaper, but apparently more convenient standard double room. Like before, the staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean and the free parking possibility in front of the hotel welcome. Unlike before the WIFI worked, the room did not smell badly, the tea/coffe machine is gone. The window opened to the hotel's quiet yard, which was nice. The breakfast we ate in one of the restaurants within 100 metres from the hotel. An ATM around the corner was also useful.

Our room was too dark, it had a small window overlooking a wall. Although the towels were changed every day, the bathroom was not cleaned every day. The bed squicked every time you moved and wasn't comfortable. The radiators started to whistle in the middle of the night, a persistent and very annoying noise. Although we complained to the personnel of the hotel, they didn't do anything about this and the same situation occured the next night. I would not stay here again and I don't recommend this hotel.

I stayed for only one night, but everything about this hotel was very good. The location, cleanliness, spacious room with nice view at the old town towers and roofs, very clean and new bathroom. The only minus was that they didn't serve breakfast but as other people here mentioned, the location is just right in the area with many restaurants and bars so it's not a problem.
