“Spacious rooms but perhaps some noise insulation for the walls”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

Location:
Sapa town’s like a stretch of road with shops and hotels located at both sides - Bamboo Sapa Hotel is right at the end, almost directly opposite The Mhong Sisters’ bar. It’s not especially close to restaurants and bars but it’s still within walking distance.
The hotel and staff:
To be honest, where general appearances are concerned, it looks ‘aged’ as compared to other options available throughout Sapa town. It doesn’t have an elevator but the staff would be rushing to your side to help with your luggage anyway. The staff is friendly enough, managed to crack a smile while unlocking the front doors for us (it was way past midnight).
Rooms:
We stayed 1night, the rooms are spacious, there’s no air conditioning but there’s a heater if I’m not mistaken. The rooms, bed sheets, bathrooms looked clean but alas, spotting a scuttling cockroach in the room on 2 separate occasions shattered that illusion. Water heater and hairdryer are available, particularly important as nothing seem to be able to dry completely around this highland.
Noise control is terrible though, the walls are not sound-proof and I was woken up at the crack of dawn by the sounds of chattering voices, whirring of the hairdryer and footsteps against the stairs.
Nevertheless, the view from the balcony was breathtaking.
Breakfast:
Breakfast is acceptable. They have freshly prepared omelets and soup noodles. Go early if you want to avoid the crowd (0830-0900 onward) which mostly consists of families and loud children.

We only stayed one night at Bamboo Sapa but we were very impressed with this hotel, especially in Sapa, it appears to be one of the best. The rooms are large and clean, bathroom was spotless and rain shower was great but the view from the balcony was what we found spectacular. Would strongly recommend this hotel

This hotel is fabulous. We stayed here only one night, but we loved this hotel. The hotel located on a hill, so almost the rooms have mountain view. Very close to the sapa towlet and many goods restaurants nearby. Recommended!!!

Room Tip: choose rooms on the second floor for great view

We stayed here 2 nights during our recent trip to Sapa. We had 2 rooms due to our family size, parents and 3 kids. Each room was very big. Hotel is very neat and clean with friendly staffs. Room is very clean with balcony looking over the hill-sides/valley. Food is so so. There is an on-site construction going on at the moment, so it kind of noisy during the day. There is no lift and we stayed on 4th floor, every time we left our rooms to go somewhere, we had to use the stairs which we didn't mind. We did a lot of walking/hiking/trekking while in Sapa. The hotel is located right in town! We'd stay here again!

Room Tip: If you have difficulty using the stairs, you'd want to stay on lower floors as there is no lift.

Bamboo Sapa is conveniently located just a couple of minutes from where the main shops of Sapa town are. It is thus relatively quiet and undisturbed by the incessant honking of the bikes and vans in the area. Buffet breakfast at the hotel was pretty good (included in the price). The ambience of the restaurant, facing the mountains of Sapa is a definite plus:Rooms are sufficently spacious and the amenities in the room are all in good working condition. They were also very clean!

The downside is that it is a little old and hence, feels a little less cosy and attractive than newer ones which tend to have a more modern, comfortable "feel".

It was also somewhat unfortunate that the hotel staff were not exactly very warm and friendly, barely making any attempt to know their guests, extend invitations, take the initiative to provide information about the place, giving insights into interesting parts of the town nor even check on our stay. When asked to have a somewhat later check out (due to the time of our train from Sapa to Hanoi), they plainly and with a somewhat cant-be-bothered attitude rejected our repeated requests. Not the slightest efforts to accommodate a little at all. Most hotels i have been to were very willing to push back the check out time by a couple of hours just to give their guests that little more convenience. Such quality service though, is lacking in vietnam in general.

Decent stay overall, but unless they up their service and amenities, might lose the competitive edge in years to come.

I found this hotel from TripAdvisor and made the booking online. Thru a friend, she organized a pick up for my friend & I. All was well organized. Leaving hotel to the train station, we asked the hotel to organized the same car, it is 16 seater car. It's a good deal, one person costs USD 3 for one way.

Reception staff is helpful and cheerful. So nice of them letting us to check in in the morning. Our train arrived around 5am and it took us around one hour to reach the hotel.

The hotel is situated in a main street of Sapa town. However, it is toward the end of the busy street so it's less noise. It is a small town, from one end to another takes only 10 minutes walking. In the area, there is other hotels and restaurants. It's convenient to find food.

Breakfast is included in the room rate. Restaurant is located downstair facing the green mountain view. Food is decent. The buffet has enough choices.

The bed is a little bit hard but that isn't an issue.

While this hotel will not blow you away we booked a delux room (about $75 in advance through tonkin travel) and were happy. This gave us a massive room at the back of the hotel with a massive (if typically Vietnamese) firm bed. The bathroom was good. It was slightly tired in places but you didn't notice because of the room wide windows looking out over the valley and mountains - which is why you choose this hotel. Staff only average though I think that may be just to us - we asked to move rooms after we had spent 30 mins in the first room as it was on 1st floor stair landing and as the hotel has no lift everyone clomps past the door. On arriving in the 2nd room we asked for the bed linen to be changed as it looked like someone had been sleeping in it. We then found the replacement sheet also a bit creased so have to assume they just don't press the sheets. Acceptable I assume considering where we were. Breakfasts were a good, varied buffet. To finish I'd have wanted to be paying very little to stay at this hotel and have a small room with no view. If you pay the extra for a delux room and a view and are happy with no lift (you'll be doing plenty of climbing round here anyway!) it's a good place to choose. And finally we rented bikes with Chung (out the hotel, turn right and 40m on left) and used him as a guide and he took us all over the place to amazing views, villages you'd never see on a tour. He was brilliant, a good character and spoke good English. We probably but happily overpaid As you can get cheaper but nothing was too much trouble and we did around 100km in the day. Before going out to the poorest of villages he asked if I'd like to take the kids candy. I offered $10 not knowing what buys what etc. it gave about 30 kids a lolly and a wafer thing. Though I'm not convinced about giving half starving kids candy I wish I'd given more cash up front as it was one of those moments with crowds of the most polite but absolutely filthy half dressed kids not knowing what to make of you but they seemed happy, I think. Anyway I digress but I hope it's of use.
