We stayed two nights at the Bamboo and although our room was very nice , and the balcony view fantastic, we were underwhelmed by the service.

To start, we arrived like most other tourists on the night train, so we got to the Bamboo tired and grimy at around 8am. We were told that an early check-in would cost us an additional $30. This was an unwelcome surprise. The other option presented was for us to upgrade to a superior balcony room for an additional $30/night and no charge for early check-in. We opted for the upgrade, which seemed like the lesser of two evils at the time, but it also meant we spent a total of $60 more than we had planned.

The view from our superior balcony room was gorgeous, but we still felt $75/night was a lot to pay for a hotel room in Sapa, Vietnam. The room was very spacious, the bed comfortable and the shower refreshing, but the furniture had certainly seen better days, as had the hallways and stairwells of the hotel itself.

In general, the staff was not warm or friendly. They were not rude, but we always felt a bit like we were inconveniencing them with our questions. We arranged a one-day private hiking tour through the hotel concierge and although the tour was excellent, the process of arranging it with the stone-faced concierge wasn't enjoyable (when we asked about tour options, he indicated only one option).

Surprisingly, the attitude of the staff changed for the better on the day of our departure. We can only attribute the change to the presence of the boss, the Director Assistant, who was very pleasant and accommodating - offering us his card and encouraging us to contact him if the need arose.

In general, we felt the Bamboo was overpriced and the service level lower than expected. We won't recommend the Bamboo to friends - not because it's not an adequate hotel (it is), but because we feel there are plenty of hotels in Sapa that will provide a more enjoyable experience at a more reasonable cost.

My partner came down with a bug of somesort which caused needing to see a doctor asap. It was 1am in the morning and the kind gentleman (who had only been there for 1-month) called around for doctor and stayed with us until the doctor came. He then gave us a late check out of 4pm so we could rest after a horrendous night.

Very kind, extremely generous and you will feel like part of the family at this hotel. It's beautiful, amazing views and a terrfic central location.

We cannot thank them enough.

This hotel was a little more expensive than what we were planning to spend, but that worry literally went out the window as soon as we opened them and stepped into the balcony facing Fansipan. The mountain view is the feature of this hotel. I have never seen my partner so content. It was also very clean and the beds were huge and quite confortable. A variety of breakfast foods were included in the room rate (which was also very plentiful), and the hotel arranged for us to tour the villages in the valley by trek and overnight homestay. Some smoking was allowed in the hotel lobby, which wasn't nice. Internet was available and relatively speedy. Staff were very nice and willing to help.

Stayed for 2 nights during my recent visit to the beautiful Sapa town. This year's trip was my second time to Bamboo Sapa Hotel but this year's journey was meant to be different - it was a journey to conquer the highest peak in IndoChina - Fansipan mountain. Arrival at Bamboo Sapa Hotel was warmly welcomed and the reception tried their best to provide us with early check ins - manage to get 2 rooms. Breakfast daily have been superb - delicious. But the most impressive of all - special thanks to Manager, Mr Hieu. He took the extra effort to explain and prepared us for the Fansipan hike (I met him whilst surfing the net- kudos for having connection with the outside world) and thanks to him, dinner was prepared and awaits the team after our tiring journey back from Fansipan. If there is anything to be said about this hotel and its people, it is definitely - magnificant and fantabulous!

I am awaiting for my next trip back to the lovely Sapa town. Perfect get away from usual busy schedule.

Also, loads of kudos to my tour guide for the Fansipan hike - Mr Sun. He and his team of porters made the hike up and down - bearable and fun!! Cheers to them and I will definitely return for my 2nd time when time permits.
