Menu is very extensive and quite interesting. Had the wild pork which was beautiful. Staff provided a heater for me!

I've now had almost a week in Sapa, and have been to this restaurant many times. After staying in a few towns where only the basic Vietnamese dishes - pho and rice - are available, Sapa comes as a surprise with its plethora of restaurants. However, most restaurants here are very much catering for the tourist market with pseudo-Western/Vietnamese food at prices which are still considered cheap by Western tourists but which are highly inflated by the standards in non-touristy Vietnamese towns.

This restaurant is therefore a welcome change. It is centrally located near the square, a handful of places along from Little Gecko restaurant and diagonally opposite Gecko restaurant. The restaurant is fronted by bays of windows, and inside is a no-frills, clean, well-lit family restaurant with comfortable tables and chairs; the emphasis though is very much on functionality - if you want candles, starched linen and long-stemmed wineglasses, go elsewhere. The family socialise in part of the restaurant, the TV is always on (but not too intrusive), and the young son in the family is absolutely delightful.

But the reason to come here is the food! The menu is extensive. There are Western dishes, including pizzas, on the menu but I think I'd be looking elsewhere for those. The Vietnamese food though is very good. They seem to have many of the things on the menu, including exotic ingredients like deer, wild boar and the local mushrooms. The main selling point though is the price; as one Westerner said to his two friends a couple of nights ago 'it's the same menu as other restaurants, but half the price'. Indeed, some of the dishes are 30-40% of the price that you'd pay at the touristy places. Similarly, drinks are priced as if this restaurant were in a non-touristy Vietnamese town - a Hanoi beer, for example, is 15 000 dong rather than the 40 000 commonly quoted in the Western tourist enclave.

So, for genuine Vietnamese food at bargain prices served in a clean, family-run restaurant, I suggest you check this place out!
