Treated as family. Stayed at the Home stay house and was welcomed with open friendly smiles all around. Dinner was fun to watch being prepared and even more so enjoyed when eaten. The medicinal bath was great so says my mate. This was rice planting time and was a special time to be able to know some of the folks in the fields. It is a growing area moving up the mountain. A must for the list.

We hired a motor bike for the day and found our way to Ta Phin.

Our local 'guide' was fantastic. Spoke very good English and was extremely patient with our photography.

Their embroidery is the best we have seen in Vietnam and the prices, especially when compared to Hanoi and Saigon, are VERY reasonable - make sure you take an extra large suitcase for the return trip home.

Ta Phin also has a small cave - worth looking at while you are there, but would not justify a special trip (may want to bring your own torch.

We rented scooters from the hotel for 120.000 vnd a day. It was a 15-20 mins ride away from Sapa's centre. Costs 20.000 vnd to enter. Amazing views whilst riding to the village, we made the mistake of giving some local red dzaol women a lift back to ta phin on our scooters. They said they needed a lift home but when we got to the village they did not want to get off until we bought something from them! We had to kick them off and ride away quickly although that didn't stop them chasing us down the road!
So be careful as they are so friendly until you don't want to buy anything.
On the way back to Sapa you can take a right turn and go through MATRA village which is also stunning.

Many, Many people from the village try hard and sometimes agressively to sell u something. Village lies in a valley so u see the fields and houses but not a view from a mountain.
