Owner description: The Sapa Sisters is a website that connects expats, backpackers and travellers with local Hmong in the Sapa-area. It aims to establish a direct link between guides and people that are about to visit Sapa to empower the young Black H'Mong women and give them a reasonable pay for their skilled services. All the guides speak English and have long experiences working as guides. Sapa Sisters, a social enterprise owned by local guides!

We did a one day trekking with the sapa sisters. You get a private guide (one of the sapa sisters). The program is adapted to your preferences. The service and guidance were excellent. You also take other tracks then the larger groups. During one point of our trip we were walking in the valley and saw other tour groups higher in the valley (all together). So we enjoyed it was not so crowdy along the way. One last thing to point out, other people from the village walk along with you and help you (to prevent you from slipping during the trip) but be prepared because they expect you to buy something by the end of your trip.

We had Zao as our guide for one day. She was able to organize a last minute tour for us in a not so touristy area (we saw two tour groups in about 5 hours). We took a car back once we were done with the hike (no extra charge versus taking a motorbike). She then took us to the market and bargained for us but with no pressure to buy at all. If you are in sapa I would recommend giving zao a call, she is knowledgeable about the area, fun to be around. Hiring these ladies means you are helping the young women in this area. Telephone Is the best way to reach them although they were very responsive with my emails as well.

The Sapa Sisters gave us a fantastic tour. Not only do they speak near fluent English, they also have an excellent sense of humour and kept us laughing all the way. If you're going to Sapa you should definitely just ear mark a few hours to spend with these ladies, because they are an absolute delight and you'll have a richer experience for spending some of your time with them. Do it!

Visibility can be bad in Sapa, so I waited until the morning I wanted to trek to call Chi. Fortunately she was available. She met me at my hotel at 9:30 and I was brought back by motorbike of someone she knew around 4:00. The total cost was $20. She was very friendly and not pushy and when I wanted to stop and enjoy the view for five minutes at different spots she was fine with that. It's nice to know she's getting all the money and the hotel wasn't getting a cut. The hike was very muddy and extremely beautiful with lots of rice paddies terraced into the side of the mountains.
