“A lovely stay in Sapa”
Reviewed September 26, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 3 days and had no complaints. We stayed in two different rooms (didn't have a reservation and ended up staying longer than expected)and both were clean and well kept. The views from the various balconies range frkm excellent to pretty decent. Breakfast was fine and the service was very good. The family who runs the hotel is very kind and helped to book tours etc.

Our only issue was with the overnight bus we had them book back to Hanoi. We didn't order the train tickets in time so the owner called to book us seats on the bus. He told us we'd have seats on the bottom but when we arrived the driver refused to let us sit in those seats. We're still not sure what happened but I'd recommend if you end up having to take the bus, have the owner talk to the driver to get the right seats for you.

Very thankful for the early check in, after a night on the sleeper train, and a late check out before our sleeper train back to Hanoi. Great views from the room, although at times the room itself felt cold and damp, due to the weather. The staff are polite but unless a tour of ticket is being sold they are not particularly chatty. Breakfast was good, although 9.30 does seem a bit early to stop serving. Transfer back to the train station was arranged via the hotel and we were informed that it would depart at 5pm, which it did, only to take us 100 metres up the road and transfer us to another minivan, which then proceeded to park in the town for almost 30 minutes. Becoming concerned due to the fact we had to collect our tickets at 6.15 I rang the hotel, to be told the bus is waiting for other people, neither helpful or apologetic. Good base but like I said there is something missing.

We booked 3 nights here and we loved this family run hotel. Our top floor room had incredible views over the mountains (on a clear day!) with a nice shared balcony/terraced area outside. Quite a lot of steps up to the rooms but well worth it! Breakfast was incredible (banana juice is a must) as is their other lunch options. The family are so friendly and helpful, and we booked a day tour to Lao Chai and Tra Van ($12-$15 pp), and hired a motorbike for a day ($5 per day plus fuel) to view the waterfalls - all through the hotel. It's a 5 minute walk to other restaurants on the main street and right next to the market. The day we checked out they let us have a shower and kept our bags for us. Only complaint would be that the keys are left hanging over the counter which is a little unsettling, and the drop off service back to Lao Cai station actually drops you at the owner's relative's restaurant (Pineapple restaurant) where you're pushed to buy food before your train. Other than that, a great stay!

We stayed here for 2 nights, our family of 5. The owner with his wife & young children run this hotel. They were incredibly polite & so helpful. It's great being able to trust in local knowledge, it was invaluable. They organised transfers to & from train station without a problem. Breakfast was good, rooms clean. Our room didn't have an a/c or fan however cooler nights meant it was ok. I would recommend this hotel.

Typical, familly owned hotel in Sapa, the owners were generally friendly and helpful. Our room was quite spacious with wooden floor and comfy as well, the cleanlines was good however not perfect. The beds are a little bit to hard for sleep but for one night it was ok. The room had a shared balcony. Wifi has worked but rather slowly. Basic brakfast included in the rate. Overall quite nice stay.

We, my 10-year old son and friend, have had the best time at the Cat Cat Hotel and in Sapa. The staff is friendly and helpfull, breakfast is good, the rooms are simple and clean and the location is great, on the road to Cat Cat village, which you can easily visit by yourself. The town is small, so everything is nearby. In short, good value for your money. We stayed just for one night, unfortunately, because we'd rather stayed longer. The surroundings are the best. Cat Cat hotel arranged an excellent tour to Ta phin for a good price . Our guide Sinh took us off the beaten track, through rice fields and across the hills. He could tell us nice stories about the different tribes and their culture. Wish we could join him tommorrow for another tour.

The hotel is located just outside Sapa Town on the way to the ethnic village, Cat Cat. The hotel in itself i ok, noting fancy but fine. However there are big concerns when it comes to security. First: The room key is just placed at the reception counter where no one whatches it. By mistake we coulden't unluck our door until we discovered that we mistakenly had picked up another room key. This makes it possible that eveybody can come and take your room key and lock himself into your roome when you're out trekking the Mountains. Scondly, We experienced the biggest security issue when we wanted to lock our money in the depositbox at the reception, since there aren't saftyboxes in the room. 2 minutes after I gave the hotel owner our money to secure in the depositbox in the reception, I discovered that they had taken my money out of the envelope I placed them in and had counted the Money, they said. But now I was 60 USD short. While I turned my back and expected them to deposit my money, the receptionist, hotel owner and his wife counted my money - to know how much I placed in the depositbox they said - and I lost 60 USD. So, be aware of this hotel-owner in the same way you would a thief.
