“Very nice hotel!”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

We really liked this nice and friendly hotel. We had a big room on the upper side (had to "climb" so many steps!), with a big bed and a clean bathroom (with the shower in the middle, as in many other places, but was ok). We has great views and even a computer in the room. They also offer laundry service and the staff was very very helpful. They organised our transport from/to Lao Cai and gave us information enough to organize our trip and treks. Breakfast was very good and in general the atmosphere of this hotel was fantastic. We would stay there again!

Travelled the nighttrain from Hanoi to Lao Cai. Had already booked the Cat Cat hotel via internet, because my girlfriend stayed at it some years ago. The Cat Cat hotel had arranged for transport that picked us up in Lao Cai. It saves you from wild overpriced taxis that literally try to capture you when you leave the train. The hotel-booked taxi takes you directly to the hotel for 5$ for 2 persons.
When we arrived at the hotel we had the rooms at once though it was 7 am in the morning. We went to the restaurant in the hotel and got a wonderful warm noodlesoup and black coffee. That first day there was a thick fog / low clouds so we could hardly see 20 meters. We got some wood for the fireplace but did not succeed in setting it on fire as the fog made it wet.
Next days there was high clouds and therefore a fantastic view from the hotel over the mountains and the valley. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
The staff on the Cat Cat hotel are very kind and helpful. They got a working free wifi. The beeakfast is ok - either fruit/continental or local noodlesoup.
Beds are extremely hard.

We stayed one night in this hotel in September 2012. After beeing very unlucky with the horrible accomodation the night before (see my other reviews to know what I mean). We decided to change to another hotel in order to feel comfortable at night. After having a look at different rooms, we took a small one on the floor above the reception. Price was 20 USD for one night including breakfast. The room was very new, small but comfy, very clean (the most important in my opinion) and without any extras. Bed could have been more comfortable. Size of the bed was ok for 2 but it was a little hard. We didn't have any noise isues as some other people report here, but we didn't went to bed before 11.30pm. We had a shared balcony, but as the weather was really wet and cold...we only used it to dry our clothes. We didn't have any good views of the landscape, for this you have to take one of the more expensive rooms higher uo, which actually looked really nice, but we were on a budget and only there to shower and sleep for one night. Bathroom was new as well by the way, excellent shower, no warm water or pressure issues. Breakfast was ok, average I would say. All in all I can recommend this place, have a look at the rooms first and then decide. Our room was ok for 20 USD considering the little time we spent in it, but the superior rooms for 25 USD have some more extras, more space and better views.

I have read hundreds of review in order to search for one hotel with the best value for money with clean and cozy room. Finally, I have decided to stay in this CAT CAT HOTEL.

During our stay with Cat Cat Hotel, we were being served with great smile from Ha and Duc Thien. They are so friendly, polite and helpful. Their service is the best compared to other hotels I stayed during my vacation at Bali, Krabi, etc. The location of the hotel is good, right in the center of Sapa town. There was free wifi in the lobby and the room as well.

I am very particular with the room condition which I am going to stay. It must look new, very clean and cozy. I am very pleased that Cat Cat Hotel do meet my expectation. I stayed at the room at the 4th floor, it was very spacious and well maintained & decorated. The view from balcony was great! Besides, I believe their other rooms are very well maintained also because we were being offered for a bath at another room at the 2nd floor before we left for night train. I love the room at 2nd floor very much although it was smaller and without the great view. The room was so well decorated, very clean and I believe they have just renovated the room.

I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Duc Thien as well. He had been very kind to us and helped us during our stay at Cat Cat Hotel. At first, I felt a little bit insecure about my train voucher not being able to change to actual train ticket at Lao Cai train station because of communication problem. The workers/staffs at train station couldn't understand/speak English. However, Duc Thien had helped us on this. He sent us to his friend's restaurant at Lao Cai, near the train station, and asked his friend who is a beautiful lady boss to help us to get the train ticket. Of course we had dinner at the restaurant, the name of the restaurant is "Pineapple". And again, the lady boss was so friendly and helpful. She not only went to collect the ticket for us on her own while we were enjoying the delicious dinner, she even asked her staff to guide us for a less than 5 minutes walk to the train station after dinner. Actually we already able to see the train station from her restaurant. We were very pleased of her extremely good service.

I am not sure how this hotel has such good reviews and rating, maybe it was just our room that was bad. We were in room 2, directly above the restaurant. It was extremely noisy, both the staff below and people in the street and started about 6am to 10pm so no chance of a sleep in or early night. The noise was not the only issue, the wiring in the room was confusing and concerning, it took a couple of minutes to figure out the light switches. We also had some problems with our door, with a pannel falling off, and the door handle coming off. Breakfast was average and no wi fi in our room. Its in a good location, but there are better views from other hotels. The staff were helpful and spoke English, but hotel itself needs some work.

Room Tip: Top levels will give you a view ad get you away from some of the noise in the street.

This hotel has a nice location down the center on the road to Cat Cat. The view from the balcony is good, however, not amazing. Service was not the best you can have, at arrival there were no towels in the room, no warm water available and no toilet paper. Also most of the time nobody can be found at the reception desk to help you.

Yes, there are at least 3 different Cat Cat hotels in the same street and a few meters from each other.

We booked a big room with views on the first floor, with a shared balcony.
The room was great, very spacious, it even had a fireplace and the views were great.

There was free wifi and the staff were very helpful and nice upon arrival and during our stay.

The breakfast was delicious. You have to try the muesli with yogurt and fruit. One of the best breakfasts during our trip!
