We stayed here for three nights while touring the area. The hotel is located close to the river and markets, the rooms were offered at a reasonable price and were clean, although somewhat basic, the buffet breakfast was nice and offered a large variety of foods.

Check in fast, rooms ok but beds very hard, kettle cups etc but no beverages provided. Security bit of worry as stare case from rooms at one end led to open street. Breakfast had a good choice. Close to town centre, walked in and through the market, locals did not seem that friendly in comparison to all the other places we have stayed in Vietnam. Very limited places to eat and drink but we ate just close by but not enclosed so you ate at mercy of the flying beasts!

We only spent one night here but it was a lovely place to crash. We had a full day on the Mekong delta - arrived at 6pm, ate in the restaurant (food was great), cleaned up (bathroom was clean, tidy and reasonably modern) and slept (on a very hard bed). Only frustrating thing was the pulsating noise from the karaoke bar across the road - ask for a room facing the tennis courts as it would be much quieter - didnt effect us anyway as we crashed!

We were told that the Chau Pho was one of the two best hotels in Chau Doc, with the Victoria being the best. However, we were not at all impressed. Although our room was very large, with a three piece suite and lots of space, there were few other positives. The room had a strange musty smell which suggested dampness, although there was none evident. The bed was the least comfortable we had on our tour of SE Asia, and the light shining on the hotel sign on the wall outside made our room like daylight even with the curtains drawn. There were also intermittent strange noises through the night that we never identified. So we had a poor night's sleep. There were no public lounge areas to sit in and the whole place had a very downmarket feel to it. It is located in a backstreet that has no other tourist related venues, and the pavements were in very poor condition so walking was uncomfortable. In the end we gave up looking for a restaurant and ate in the hotel, which was of a reasonable standard although the room lacked any character and was largely filled with tour groups. Overall it is just about acceptable for an overnight stop but not a hotel to spend any time in.

Room Tip: As there are no rooms with any views worth having I would suggest choosing one at the back, out of r...

Hotel is right at the market square and the noise carries over. Rooms are comfortable. Good breakfast choices. We could watch live on the streets from our room, including a funeral procession with noisy music. Good choice for a central location.

AS border towns go it wasn't bad but we certainly didn't have one of the large rooms with sofa's or sitting rooms. We switched off the a/c but couldn't open the window because of the noise from the karaoke bar across the road. The temperature in the hotel restaurant was too cold for us to eat there even with coats on, we tried, but then took our drinks up to our room to defrost. The biggest problem was that the hotel was full of tour groups all leaving at the same time so it was impossible to get the suitcases down in the lift! That wasn't pleasant.
We eventually ate at a local place down the road and the food was good but the noise level there was such that it wasn't condusive to conversation. We ended up at the bar closest to the hotel which was quiet and drank as much alcohol as possible with a view to managing to sleep through the karaoke.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back and take a fur coat if you want to eat in the restaurant.

Our room was very large with a sofa and 2 chairs plus a nice bathroom. The lighting was good but the bed was the harder Asian style. Breakfast was quite good with plenty of variety. The drawback was the location as it is across the street from a karoke place which had a booming bass which became annoying.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back overlooking the tennis courts. Other guests told us these rooms did not s...
