“Not sure f I was in the same hotel”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

On reading other reviews, we were slightly apprehensive at selecting this hotel. however I am certainly glad I did not take to heart some of the reviews, because t seemed we were in a totally different hotel than that which others had written about.
We were upgraded to the grand suite, on the 3rd floor giving us a unprecedented panoramic view of the Bassac and Mekong River and the traffic that ply past this grand old lady. the room was exception and very spacious with a lounge and comfortable out door area to sit and watch the world pass you bye.
The restaurant again on reading must of been in a different hotel because the evening meal we had of Lamb was cooked to perfection and the meal was nothing like others had experienced. the Victoria Hotel staff were very helpful and ensured we enjoyed our stay, breakfast was also very good, not sure what the other hotels are like in Chau Doc but I would not bother going past this grand old lady the next time we visit.

Room Tip: Get a river view

Dear Mr. Colonel1957,

Thank you so much for your nice comment and for taking the time to share it here.
We are delighted to see that you enjoyed your stay with us and would like to come back.

In the Green Season (that the guides wrongly called Rainy Season), we have less visitors and thus we make sure that our guests do feel like they are very special to us. This almost always begins with making sure that they have the best rooms in the hotel: the ones on the third floor and facing the river.

Once you have the best room, then you have to savour the best dinner and breakfast. Our Chef and her cooks always work hard to provide our guests with specials dishes that are perfectly balanced between Vietnamese and Western food.

Next time you come to visit us, we advise you to spend some time at our Spa to have the complete Victoria Experience!

We look forward to welcoming you again and to serving you again,

With the warmest regards and best wishes

Great location, our speedboat from Phnom Phenn dropped us at the hotel’s jetty where we were met by one of the management team and our guide with cold towels and a drink, very well received after our four and a half hour trip. The public areas of the hotel were very nice and the food in the restaurant was good, my only criticisms would be that the bathroom was a little tired and could do with a refurb and the air conditioner was quite noisy . As a first stop on the river journey from Cambodia it was ideal.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rob_and_Sharon.

Thank you for sharing your opinion about our hotel, here on TripAdvisor.
We are glad to see that, even if you stayed with us for a short amount of time, you enjoyed your stay at Victoria Chau Doc Hotel.

It is our tradition to personally welcome each and every guest and to make you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive, with some refreshing towels and drinks. We know that our climate is not the easiest one to get used to.

Our restaurant is indeed one of the best in town and its location, right on the River’s banks, makes it the perfect place to satisfy all your senses at once: the sight, the hearing, the taste, the smell, and the touch!

We take good note of your mention about the bathroom and would like to inform you that we already have a program to update all bathrooms in the hotel; this program will be undertaken within this year.

We look forward to welcoming you again so that you can see the improvements that we will have made!

With best regards and wishes

We were looking forward to staying at this resort, having been impressed with the Victoria Sapa property, and were not disappointed. From the moment we were welcomed in late afternoon by a tall attractive French intern, to our 7 am departure for Phnom Penh the next morning, we enjoyed every minute. We were in a Superior room.

Being on an active river adds much to the view, either cooling off by the pool, sipping Pina Coladas with friends outdoors, or enjoying dinner. Not a large property, it nonetheless is nicely landscaped. Our two wives spent much time in the gift shop, which featured the best of local textiles, etc. We had the choice of dining inside or out, and chose from a Western menu for dinner, which was delicious.

A special effort was made to serve breakfast before their speedboat left, which was appreciated, as was the box lunch provided for the five hour trip. A class act!!

Dear Mr. Billitchyfeet,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback about our hotel on TripAdvisor.

We are delighted to see that you really enjoyed your stay with us and took advantage of every aspect of our hotel and services.
Our location right between the Bassac River and Chau Doc town gives our guests a one-of-a-kind experience. Swimming by the river, enjoying cocktails at the bar, or savouring our Chef’s cooking at the restaurant; whatever your activity, the river is always the central aspect of life here at Victoria Chau Doc Hotel.

As to the speedboat between Chau Doc and Phnom Penh, the Victoria Experience neither stops at our jetty, nor when the boat leaves the hotel: our on-board guide ensures that everything goes smoothly. This includes making sure that our guests are well provided with everything: tea, coffee, lunch boxes, water, or help at the border if needed; we take care of you until we know that you have safely reached Phnom Penh and have met your new guide!

Once again, thank you for your nice comments.
We are looking forward to welcoming you again at Victoria Chau Doc Hotel.
With best regards and wishes

We stayed here 1 night. Room was comfortable but is a little tired, bathroom needs updating. We had a river view and it was great watching the locals going about their business. From what I saw in our short stay in Chau Doc this would be the only hotel I would consider staying at. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel food was beautiful. I felt the dining areas were much nicer than the rooms.

Room Tip: Definately take a room overlooking the river

Dear Mr. KazandTez,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feelings about our hotel. We are pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay with us.

The view on the river is indeed really nice and pleasant and the location of the hotel, between the river and the city helps to have a true insight of the authentic life in Vietnam.
We know that a good meal is not only about what we eat but also about the experience our guests have while enjoying their food. Thus we work hard on delivering the best service possible in our restaurant and we are glad to see that you liked it.

You mention that the rooms are a “little tired” and we agree with you. This is why we have a complete program of refurbishment and renovation currently going on. Rooms and bathrooms are being completely updated through this program. The restaurant too will know some improvements.

We look forward to welcoming you again and to surprising you with all the improvements that will have been done by then.

With best regards and best wishes,

Victoria Chau Doc is 3-stars at the very most.

Having stayed here several years ago, it is very obvious that standards have slipped in the last 2 years and that the hotel has become complacent with a lack of competition. There is evidence of cost cutting everywhere, from the cheap thin towels in the rooms, to the basic breakfast. The 200usd rack rate is only because there are no other options.

The view is still great and the rooms have all the basic necessities. The pool is a welcome relief from the midday heat. The service is ok and sets the low expectation that newly arriving tourists will receive throughout Vietnam.

As soon as there is another option in Chau Doc, I will be staying there.

We are very sorry to learn that our services didn’t meet your expectations. However, we take good note of all your observations about our standards, our rates, and the breakfast.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION; This hotel sits beautifully right on the Bassac river, and nothing beats sitting here while relaxing and watching local boats float by!

The hotel is as you would expect in a 4-stat in a remote location in Asia but probably over-priced because there is no real competition. The guidebooks rave about the restaurant but it truly is not worth spending your money on.

Would go again to sit on the front terrace, and this was worth the trip. Otherwise the hotel and Chau Doc is a bit of a dead end.

Dear SE1er_in_Lodnon,

Thank you for your comments on TripAdvisor and for taking the time to voice your observations about our hotel.

Our hotel is bestowed by a beautiful view on the Mekong Delta and the Bassac River and we are pleased to see that you really enjoyed it.

As you say, we do not have a lot of competition. However, we are working on our standards and level of services to make sure that our guests enjoy a 4-stars’ service, even in a remote location in Asia. This concern also our restaurant and we are already improving it, step by step.

We hope to welcome you again on our terrace.

With best regards and wishes

Arriving from Phnom Phen this Hotel was a delightful surprise. We had a problem with our booking because of Internet issues and even if we could not get what we thought we had booked they did at least give us a discount. We were met with towels and a refreshing drink whilst checking in. The superb happy hour and outstanding selections we tasted from the menu made this a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were well appointed and very clean. We thought the breakfast cost quite high.

Room Tip: If booking this hotel make sure you get a package that includes breakfast as it is very expensive to...

Dear June B.

We highly appreciate that you took time to write here your feelings about our hotel.

We know that, to reach our hotel you have to travel sometimes a lot and welcoming towels and drinks are necessary after such journeys.

You seem to have enjoyed our Happy Hour, from 5 to 7 pm at the bar, and the food of our restaurant, and we are really happy to know that.
Most of the time, breakfast is included in the price of the room and it is really unusual – for us too – not to have breakfast included in the room price by the travel agencies. Your room tip will be useful for many travellers!

We look forward to welcoming you soon again,

With best regards and wishes
