“Do not miss this magical place - so much more than a meal.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

Even if you don't get the opportunity to stay here it is well worth the trip to come out for a lovely lunch or dinner. The property has one of the most interesting collections of antique building and objects in all of Bali. There are old temples, wonderful wooden houses and much more. If you let them know in advance they can arrange a variety of places for meals, especially if you are a large enough party. But large or small, everyone is welcome with open arms at this wonderful, family run gem of a hotel and the restaurant is no exception.

The Indonesian set meals are the highlight of the menu though there are many other things on offer as well (including a fantastic cobb salad). Choose from Balinese or Javanese options but both are perhaps the best examples of this type of meal in all of Bali. The quality of the raw ingredients and expert cooking are matched only by the creative presentation.

A meal at the Tugu is so much more than just a meal - its an experience. We can't wait to go back again soon.

“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

Travel back in time to Indonesia of old......amazing restaurants and the hotel has sunbeds right on the beach in a very unspoilt rustic manner. Its pricey but worth it for something special.

“Excellent food and restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

This is a old colonial hotel and absolutely beautiful. This is one of the nicests settings I have every had the pleasure to eat in and I have eaten in many. Food was excellent and service was good. The wine was expensive however this has become the norm in Bali in the last few years and would not put us off going back. Highly recommended.

“Not to miss cooking school”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2012

This was my second cooking school in Bali and everything I wanted it to be. Learning from a Javanese grandma who could barely speak English in a traditional Warung was a wonderful experience. The cooking was traditional and intuitive. I learned a lot and have already used some of my skills at home. The meal we made was a feast and as I was alone was unable to finish it. The staff was so kind that they wrapped up my left overs and gave them to me the next day for lunch. The cooking school was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it. Also, the cost of the school was so low in comparison with the mountain of food I made and the skills I gained- more than worth the time and price.
