We stayed 8 nights from 24 November. 2 surfers + 2 oldies. Rooms were large, airy and well maintained. Garden and pool area just right for that cool down. The shared lounges and kitchens are a gr8 resource especially for those staying for a long duration as the large lounge has full kitchen facilities. Indovision, TV and DVD player all available for communal use, which is no problem as there are only 5 rooms at Coconuts. The location is perfect for those wanting to travel within 15 mins by scooter to get to Echo Beach, Canggu Beach front (very busy and frenetic, fantastic), Berawa, Perernan Beach and into Canggu itself. Dini the site manager is happy to arrange scooters (cost 50,000Rp per day), massage on site, taxi or just about anything your heart desires.Canggu itself is just fab so many options and gobsmacking scenery. Plenty of farmland and not too many concrete blocks, basically all on your doorstep but away from the hustle and bustle. Restaurants a plenty our favourites being OM, Betelnut Cafe (awesome smoothies and wraps), Dian Cafe, Ulu and Europa at Echo. The surf was cranking @ 6-8ft with plenty of options. Take plenty of Betedine, plasters, aqua ear, and eye wash as the water is filthy. Overall I would recommend Coconuts for those wanting a chill time, chatting and mixing with the locals (the warung right next to Coconuts has just about everything you would need), exploring by scooter as the roads are pretty quiet (our first time on scooters). The Tugu Hotel near Canggu Beach is amazing in its' architecture and well worth a visit, but you will find the food prices pretty expensive on a par with Aussie. There is a gr8 back road to Berawa which is on our next list for Bali.

Room Tip: Room 1 is the largest on the ground floor but i understand this is now a gr8 deal dearer. Our room...

We stayed at Coconuts for 7 nights. The property is very modern and offers all the facilities for a nice holiday ie: fully equipped shared kitchen and living room with big flat screen tv, lovely clean pool surrounded by decking and pool furniture. Everything is very clean and the staff keep it that way daily. You will have to ask if you want your room cleaned and linen changed. Dini the manager is very friendly and helpful. There are some great restaurants close by but you do need to hire bikes to get to most of them, and also to Echo Beach. We enjoyed our time at Coconuts but that was because the other guests we were sharing the facilities with were friendly and easy to get along with. If you are unfortunate enough to get stuck with annoying people then you're in pretty close contact which may be a problem.

We stayed four nights in Coconuts. The former owner, Russell, has sold this Guesthouse to a nice Balinese woman, Dini. She is very friendly and willing to help and when we stayed there, but she still had to find her way in managing the recently acquired Guesthouse.
The rooms are clean, very spacious, modern and with Balinese details. The swimming pool and the garden are beautiful and invite you to relax near the pool when you return from one of the beaches. Near Coconuts are two beaches, Echo beach and Canggu Beach. The sea is too rough to swim in it but is perfect for surfing. There are several nice restaurants in the proximity of Coconuts. We really loved the Betlenut cafe which is situated about 400 meters down the road in the other direction than the sea. It is Australian owned and has a laid back atmosphere. The food is delicious and the waiters are great.
When we return to Bali, we will definitely stay at Coconuts and we will try to get room 2, that's the room with the nicest view!

We have just had the great pleasure of staying at Coconuts for a week with our family of 4 and can’t recommend it highly enough. The location was perfect, within easy walking distance to the beach and some brilliant restaurants. The staff are all extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The rooms were large, clean, and beautifully appointed. The guesthouse grounds and pool are very private, secure and a great place to relax and spend time with the family. The shared lounge and kitchen area are a great asset, particularly for the early morning coffee. We have been travelling to Bali for over 10 years and we have found coconuts to be the best value and most enjoyable place we have ever stayed. Unfortunately Cocounts was fully booked for the second week of our holiday, we chose another hotel in Canggu which was more expensive and did not compare on any level. Another massive plus for Coconuts is that it is run by an Australian Russell, who was not only extremely helpful and a great guy but had loads of valuable local information. If you are going to Canggu definitely stay at Coconuts, Sam & Kate

The sign of a well run business, is when things go wrong, management sort's out any issues, sadly this wasn't the case with us.
We stayed at Coconuts last year, had a good time, even wrote a review on trip advisor, unfortunately our stay this time was not so good. Because the recommendation for staying here the first time was thru a friend of Russell's, instead of sharing our disappointment on trip advisor, we decided to email Russell direct, Big mistake!! The email which came back, while nasty and personally abusive, addressed none of the issues we brought up.
When we checked in, got up to the room, because the rice field's next door to the property was being burnt in the afternoon's, the room's window's were all closed, meaning the room, because of the design of the building, with the big glass window's, were hot, because the air conditioners in the room's are too small for the size of the room(even the fridge in the room had been unplugged to save money), we decided to cool down in the pool, no such luck, pool had gone green, which from previous experience in Bali (if you spend the money), Is a 24 hour fix, unfortunately, the pool was still green when when we checked out 3d/2n later.
After two night's, and knowing that the pool was still out out of action, our Balinese friend who had come to pick us up for the day, had translated to the staff in Bahasa, asking to please clean up the room (which doesn't get done unless you ask), but also if they could leave the a/ c on, knowing with the rice field smoke, we couldn't leave the windows open, but also could they organise to open the room safe (which had been locked by previous guests), not knowing that my wife had asked Russell directly the previous day.
So, getting back to the guesthouse late in the afternoon, get to the room, and decide enough is enough. A/C off-room safe still locked- pool still green, time to check out.
After packing up our stuff in the room, I went down to pay Russell thinking that he would ask why we were checking out (check out was set for the next morning) early, again no such luck.
All's well that ends well, within an hour of leaving coconut's, we were in the pool of another local place, with a cool room, a cold fridge, an open room safe and a customer friendly manager asking us if we would like a complimentary drink, on him!
As the title suggest's, Chalk and Cheese, which is sad.

P.s We will be keeping the email we sent sent to Russell, and also the Charming reply we recieved in reply if needed by TripAdvisor Admin.

Firstly, let me just say that this is a malicious, unjustified, lowest possible neg review, based purely on an issue of not leaving an air conditioner on in their room while they went on a 11 hour day trip.
We are a small 4 room hotel, trying to keep our overheads as low as possible.
Our policy and request to turn off air conditioning when leaving the room for extended periods is CLEARLY stated in writing in each room. In fact it's in large red text and can't be missed!
All our air conditions are new, high quality 1pk Mitsubishi systems that are in fact super quiet and super efficient, even though as Sean says, our rooms are quite large! :)

We have been #1 on tripadvisor in Canggu for over 9 months prior to our last two neg reviews, and recently received tripadvisors "2012 Award for Excellence".
Why, because we are fastidious about our hotel being as good as it can be!
These guests stayed with us several months ago, left us a 5 star review and had only good things to say about us.
This time they requested by email to stay in room #4. Upon arrival Sean realised he had meant to ask for room #2, and was quite irate that we already had guests booked into room #2 and could not stay in that room.
Room #4 is in fact NOWHERE NEAR the rice field, and does not face the sun, so Sean and Jodi's recollections of their stay with us is sadly incorrect.
Half an hour later Sean rudely entered our private space without knocking, demanding that we turn on the Wifi router. I explained to him that the WIFI router is always on 24/7.
The safe was actually open upon their arrival. We have had numerous people incorrectly enter their safe pin, nothing new there, but no one asked management to unlock any safe, otherwise it would have been done instantly, as has been the case on numerous occasions.
Sean decided to check out early because his driver was in fact the "friendly manager" with a cold drink at one of our opposition hotels.
As they checked out they splashing water through the entire building, and left the ceiling fan, air conditioner, and every light on as they left!

They then had the audacity to send me an email complaining that they should have got a refund, "for the night they didn't stay", even though they checked out at 7pm.
Check time is roughly midday.
They did NOT check out early!
My take on their stay is simply, Sean went for a 11 hour drive with a hangover, returned extremely agitated, and was offered a discounted room in a nearby hotel, which is coincidentally managed by his Balinese driver, who he just took to Thailand on an all expenses paid free holiday.
The only thing here that is "Chalk and Cheese" as you say, is the two reviews left by you. One 5 star and one 1 star! Very unusual guests to say the least!
