Best thing about Ametis is the private pool. We stayed at Ametis for three nights in March in an Imperial room. The pool is a great size for swimming. However, although it was my favourite thing about the villa it still had some draw backs. Being a sun seeker there was no where to sit by the pool in the sun. The steps into the pool were only at one end and in the shade. The rough concrete around the pool edge meant you couldn’t just sit and read with your legs in the pool. Also, being a pool villa I thought there would be sun loungers to relax after a swim. But they only had a solid double sun bed which was not adjustable and very hot and uncomfortable. It was not good for reading or sunbathing. The poor butler did bring an umbrella to try and make it more attractive and cooler to sit there but it was still uncomfortable and not practical. I read someone else`s reviews saying the villa wasn’t very practical and I would agree. You get out of the pool all wet and there is no where to sit.
The villas are expensive and when I saw what the villa included I did laugh when it stated `refreshing chilled towel on arrival`. This is not something I would expect to be listed as included. Living in Japan a basic restaurant would give you a refreshing chilled towel before your meal. It made us laugh even more when on arrival a refreshing chilled towel was not provided. We had just been on a three hour car trip and could have done with a towel! They also didn’t offer to carry our bags….this surprised me. No towel on arrival made us wonder what else they would fail to provide. They stated there would be a fresh fruit bowl everyday and there wasn’t (Only on the 1st day) . They said there would be a daily fresh flower arrangement and there weren’t any. (Unless you count an orchid that was moved between rooms daily….nice but not a flower arrangement) Daily newspaper – happened one day…the other day had to remind them. Also it said it included daily homemade snacks….we found out this was the peanuts and chocolate. Not quite what I was expecting for home made snacks. This might sound petty but if you`re paying this amount it should be as stated.
Other complaints would be that the villa was cleaned but nothing was replaced. By day three we were struggling to find a glass to drink from….they had taken them away but not replaced them. This was most evident when they had taken away all the towels and not replaced them. I got out of the shower and there wasn’t a towel in sight not even a face towel. Also, I called to ask for the towels to be replaced but it didn’t happen. Took another call before towels galore arrived.
Breakfast was delivered to the villa not made in the villa kitchen which I was expecting for some reason. So the butler was really a delivery boy. He was very sweet but his English was limited. As stated before he did manage to get an umbrella to the room…he tried!
We had a massage which was excellent. One of the best I`ve ever had.
Last but important for me was the beach. It`s very dirty and smelly. If villas are going to charge these amounts they need to get together and clean up their local beach! Best meal we had was at Tugu…just a 5 minute walk away toward the beach. Great food and lots of gorgeous little touches that Ametis are missing. The meal at Ametis was very average.
Overall hard to rate Ametis. great pool and living area, but for me lacking something….possibly the Balinese soul.
