We went to Bali for a family wedding and booked three of the six villas at Alke Villas Pererenan. We were so impressed! After driving down a long, bumpy dirt road amongst the rice paddies, we were wondering what we'd got ourselves in for. Coming through the gates, we were thrilled to see the beautiful villas set amongst a tropical garden with gorgeous swimming pool.
We were picked up from the airport by Eddie, the driver associated with Alke Villas. Eddie was great and we hired him as our driver for the rest of our stay. At the villas we were greeted by wonderful Ngurah, who made sure our stay was comfortable, answering any questions we had and bringing our breakfast each morning.
The villas are in three separate buildings with one "villa" downstairs and one upstairs. Except for the 2br villa on the end (which we did not see inside) the others are more like hotel rooms with one large room with queen size bed, large wardrobe, cabinet with TV, minibar, plus a medium size outdoor bathroom with bath and separate shower. There is a small patio with two chairs on the ground floor, balcony with two chairs on the first floor.
The villas are very well built, clean with good quality furniture and bedding, and the outdoor bathroom was great. The free mini bar was stocked with water, other drinks, fruit platter and snacks. The pool was terrific and we swam there nearly every day.
The location is very quiet and peaceful. It's possible to do some nice short walks around the rice fields, but it is necessary to hire a driver or scooters to come and go from the villas. The staff there will help organize transport. Echo Beach and Canggu are about 10 minutes drive away and Seminyak about 25 minutes drive with traffic. There is no restaurant, shop or bar on the premises, but if you want to stay in, Ngurah will help with ordering in food and drinks and has the menus of several nearby restaurants that did great Indonesian food and pizza.
As we were a group, I would have liked an outdoor furniture setting where we could sit together comfortably. There is an area near the entrance where we ate breakfast (I think it's normally served on the villa patios), but this was really where the staff spent their time and not ideal for guests. In the evenings, we ended up carrying chairs across from one villa to the other so we could sit together. I understand the owners are planning to get an outdoor setting, which would be great as there is plenty of room for this in the garden.
Overall, I would highly recommend Alke Villas, particularly for couples who plan to go out and about and want somewhere nice and quiet to come back to.
