“Very good Resort, but take care with "Special Kerala Hut"”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

The Resort is great and when you come down the entrance the first time you think you arrived in paradies. Every day you enjoy the Resort, the treatment, the garden and the Ocean. For us a dream became true. 99 % of the staff are friendly and try to do everything for you.
Up to this moment the Resort is 5 *****!

Until one of the last nights and that is the reason why we only give 3***:
We booked a Special Kerala Hut with an open bath. The open bath was surrounded by a wall. Two nights before we left my girlfriend went to the toilet. Because it was dark she had the light on when she noticed two men watching her. When she quickly turned the light off the men went away. We complained about this incident and the managment wanted to find out who this men were. We are not sure they really tried to find out so they did had not to fire someone of the staff. For us this incident was a sexual harassment but we don't think that the management of the Resort thought in the same direction. So if anybody is interested in a Special Kerala Hut in the Bethsaida Hermitage Resort you better do not book this room. All the other rooms are ok and nobody can look inside and watch you in the bathroom.

If you are looking for a quiet place to soak up the sunshine, go for strolls along the empty, beautiful private beach, swim in pools with the most gorgeous views, watch the sea eagles soar from the comfort of your hammock or get pummelled by the jolly ladies in the Ayurvedic centre, then book a break at Bethsaida now.

The grounds are exquisite, there is more than enough space for you to find your own private sun spot or shady hammock and you can interact with people as much or as little as you choose. Yoga twice a day, all sorts of treatments, badminton, table tennis - you can be as active or relaxed as you like.

The rooms are spacious, simply yet tastefully decorated and very comfy. You fall asleep and wake to the sound of the waves. The food is exceptional and even if you are a die hard meat lover, you will be spoilt for choice with the delicious veggie food on offer here. I ate like a king for the whole time I was here but left feeling nourished and stuffed with health as opposed to a big bloated biffer.

But what really makes Bethsaida special apart from the setting, the food and the sunshine is the warmth of the people who work here. Whether you come alone or with someone else, you are made to feel at home the second you step through the entrance gate. This is first rate Indian hospitality with no falsity.

It is the epitome of chilled out and I left feeling like I had been away for 3 weeks rather than 7 days.

What's more is that all the money you spend on your drinks, your treatments and so on all go towards supporting the orphanage, the hospital, the schools, the internal training programmes and all the other great projects that Freddie and the folk at Bethsaida support.

They don't bang on about all the incredible stuff they do but know that staying at Bethsaida you will feel good, and also do some good. That sort of holiday is priceless. So go now. Please.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

This is a beautiful and understated resort. Rooms are spacious and clean with good showers. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The hill-side location running down to a private beach couldn't be better; two pools and lush grounds.

The dining area overlooking the sea is lovely. The buffets are very good, but a little bland on the spice front and slightly monotonous after only two nights. Sadly the big let-down was the pricey a la carte, which rather than being a step up from the buffet was instead pretty much more of the same. Eating away from the hotel could be tricky due to the location.

Room Tip: There's a big choice of room and cottage types, so hard to recommend, but if you can afford a se...

Bethsaida is beautiful and the perfect place to relax - perfect beach and swimming pools. Delicious Indian food eaten by candlelight in beautiful gardens overlooking the sea. Very helpful staff and wonderful rooms. I cannot recommend more highly... blissful and a place I will definitely return to again.

We stayed at the Bethsaida for 11 nights over Christmas 2012 and the New Year. The location and facilities were perfect for a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable family break. No TVs in most rooms but two big, clean swimming pools, a beautiful sandy beach and plenty of hammocks hung between the palm trees where you can indulge in a good book (or just snooze). Even though many of the staff were trainees from a local college, they were very helpful and delightfully welcoming. Language could sometimes be a problem but enthusiasm never was. Yoga with Joseph was really great; he made classes engaging for both beginners and experienced participants. Food was fresh, varied and tastey, with enough options either in the buffets or a la carte to suit the fussiest eaters. I thoroughly recommend the Bethsaida and hope to go back again some day.

Betsaida is the perfect retreat from the commercial crush of Christmas in the UK. We spent four days in the hotel, a beautiful location with quiet beaches that we could see from our room, lovely well tended grounds and a general air of quiet contemplation and relaxation. The staff are lovely, friendly, helpful but fun if you choose to engage which we did. They are happy that you are happy staying with them which makes for a very welcoming environment. The Ayurvedic treatment was excellent the best I have come across you feel confident in their expertise. It was a treat but like many treats a little unreal so for us a short stay to rejuvenate and enjoy was perfect before plunging back into the realities of travelling in India.

Room Tip: With the ocean breeze and idylic climate in Kerala AC is not really a requirment the fans are perfec...

I can really recommend Betsaida Hermitage. Great service, staff friendly and helpful, rooms clean, good food, clean big and nice pool plus the quite empty beach very close by. A very beautiful place. A peaceful contrast to the a bit more rough "reality" outside the gate.
Transport is needed though to reach any shops or the beach at Kovalam town
