We arrived at the resort fairly late in the evening around 8pm, the reception didnt have our reservation at all which I was a bit concerned about as i'd booked this for my partners birthday and requested a particular room with an elephant trek tour booked on his birthday, we easily got a room anyway and it was perfect, aircon was great it was clean, large balcony and spectacular views over the lighthouse beach.

The resort itself is on a hill and surround by a fair amount of building work. We settled into our room and sat on the balcony and had a beer that the rickshaw driver had bought us from the kingfisher shop enroute. We then got dressed and went to the restaurant for some food it looked dead and we got told it was closed and the chef had gone home.

The reception guy said there were places on the beach to eat and lit his torch and guided us down some dodgy steps which were inbetween two buildings currently being built. We thought this was funny and didnt mind the quirkyness of the hotel as it was all adding to the many laughs we had on holiday.. i will say though wear some trainers or good shoes do not wear heels, the treck back up to the hotel in the evenings is hard work up the dodgy steps especially in the heat!

Breakfast in the morning was again quiet but on the roof top restaurant looking over the sea and beach which was amazing. We didnt get a choice it was toast, pinapple spread and omlette pretty much everyday, other guests seemed to get dosa and indian breakfasts, some days we got pinapple juice with it some days just water and coffee or tea, one day we got tea and coffee mixed together in one pot. The breakfast is sufficient but everytime I asked for something else from the restaurant they didn't seem to have it even though other guests were eating.

The service from the staff was pretty poor to be honest, the young lads looked young and inexperienced, when asking for a drink or something to be sent to the room they didnt have anything. Once we had problems with our aircon and instead of knocking they both just walked into the room! Again we found this pretty funny and it added to the quirkyness of the hotel.

We had a day round the pool which was great the pool was empty! A word of warning, the umbrellas dont seem to fit the stands and the area round the pool was not covered which was not good in 40 degree heat. The staff tried to fix it together but it actually blew over and nearly knocked us out! haha. Take my advise and wear a hat.

We didn't try any of the massage stuff as we'd done that in the previous place we'd stayed in India. The tour that the hotel had arranged for us was brilliant worked out well.

We we're quite happy at the resort bar harry and lloyd who seemed to do a combination of cooking serving reception cleaning - everything!

I had a lovely stay overall and couldnt fault the cleanliness of the hotel in the slightest.

The view from hotel was unblievably beautiful. Food in hotel was prepared to your taste as on taking order the staff would ask as to how you want it. We had ayurvedic treatment in hotels clinic and it benfit us as we were given full explanation about it. The staff always arranged Taxi or three wheeler for us.

Our stay here was eventful. We stayed over New Year for 4 nights so were part of a compulsory New Years Eve Gala package!

Our original room was not acceptable - overlooking the construction work of the pool, which we thought would have been completed by the time we were here as this was booked months in advance (10 maybe) but then again this is India.

After declining this as it was nothing like the website pictures we were shown to others to take our pick of, neither were great but we opted for one on the second floor with views out to the lighthouse. The rooms are basic and could do with more storage space and simple things such as hangers on doors in bathrooms for towels. There really wasn't much room for our two suitcases either.

The bathroom sink leaked and the shower was a bit hit and miss also.

But back to the Gala Dinner, the staff really did make a great effort, things didn't start off on time, but the food was nice and the entertainment was appealing to most, but we really aren't the type of people who are into entertainment and Karaoke, we would rather have a chilled night dining somewhere of our own choice. We escaped later and went to Jeavan Beach Resort where we had some nice meals and the staff were lovely. I would like to thank the staff and manager at the Hill & Sea View for New Years Eve, it was comical.

The big downside to this hotel is where it is, whilst the view is lovely over the lighthouse beach, with the construction work going on it is just not safe! On your way down to the resort during the day, you will pass construction workers with buckets of rubble on there head. The walk back up is tiring and hot and you will need a torch at night, as there are no lights really once you come off the main beach strip.

Stay here if you want to experience some real India beacuse you really feel as though your mucking in with whats going on around. It's good for a giggle.

The rack rate of this hotel should be not more than 1200. No basic amenities in the room. Breakfast terrible. No choice at all. No motivation in staff. Manager least bothered. Seems this hotel is very near to closing down. Steep stairs elderly people please avoid. One can find number of better places in a rate far cheaper than this. Please don't go unless you have already booked..
