If your ship docking on Tianjin port for a day and not sure whether to visit this part of the great wall or go all the way to Beijing to see over rated BADALING WALLS, make your life easy...
Go see any part of the great wall that is not crowded so you can have a good selfy hopefully for just you standing on the wall, not for you and other million of people covering the wall. And that would be the case if you decided to be stubborn and go for BADALING WALLS in Beijing,
1- The wall is full of people that you can't see the wall itself.
It's 2.5 hours each way you barely have time to touch the dam. Thing and start heading back so you don't miss your ship.
3- you must take expensive cable car from parking lot to it plus the long lines time waisting.
4- Huangyaguan Great Wall has the same look and views that no one can tell the different (even you!)
My advice is to go see Huangyaguan Great Wall, without stressing about making it back in time, on the contrary you will have extra hour to kill in their good Tianjin mall.
How to Get there from Tianjin
By coach
Take a long-distance bus in Tianjin Jinyu Passenger Station or Tianjin Tongsha Passenger Station to Jixian County, which would take around an hour and a half and costs CNY 40 or so. Then, charter a minibus to the scenic area.

To climb the great wall and feel and see the history of a man made wonder of the world was amazing. Part of the wall I climbed was built between 206 - 220 b.c by the first Emperor of China. You can walk for miles and climb heaps of stairs or walk as little as you want but worth every minute you spend here. Take water on a hot day.

This was our second visit to the Great Wall (the first at Jinshanling ten years ago) and I thought it would be the same level of exertion. However, I was surprised how puffed I was even though I'm fit. Even when there aren't steps, the gradient is quite steep so it's hard going. We marched quickly as we didn't have long and soon left our tour group behind so we had the Wall to ourselves - fabulous. We got as far as the top of some very steep steps and had to turn round as it was dark. Thanks goodness for the handrail at that point - it was very scary descending. It took us about 2.5 hours to get there from Tianjin by coach and well worth it.

We visited this part of the wall with friends and family. Compared to the parts of the wall in Beijing this part is empty. The wall itself looks quite similar (my point of view). From Tianjin it was a short 2h trip.
