“Disappointing for St. Regis brand”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

Stayed here as part of a 4 city, 3 night business trip. First stop was the St. Regis in Tianjin. I got in very late, around midnight after flying to Beijing and taking a car to the St. Regis.

1. There was no one at the reception when I arrived. There were no staff at the door either. Maybe midnight is too late, quite possibly I was the last guest checking in for the day, and I only stayed there for about 7 hrs before leaving.

2. The room did not have air conditioning already on. THe hotel knew I was arriving, yet the room was stale and unprepared.

3. The water pressure was extremely low. Despite turning the luxury brand faucet to full blast, the water came out very weak and additionally it took about 4 mins before the hot water came on.

4. Breakfast spread was mediocre. Oddly shaped dining area, bread and danish at the entrance while the seats are all largely in the main dining area. Not a big deal, but just being specific that the arrangement is a bit odd.

I stayed in 3 Starwood properties, and this was an ok property, I probably would not stay here again. The rate was not bad, but then again this is Tianjin.

Dear camieu,

Thanks so much for your kindly review and all the compliments.

Thank you very much for mentioning our beautiful sight spots around the hotel. We recommend you our signature The St. Regis Butler Service. Coffee and tea can indeed be served 24/7 as well as the complimentary pressing service of 2 garments. You could also try the packing and unpacking service or shoe shining service. All of that is offered with compliments of your Butler.

We are looking forward to your next coming.

Best regards,

The St. Regis Management team

As we were looking for a hotel as good as it gets for a weekend stay, I rate our stay this in mind. As a whole, we were slightly dissappointed. one can discuss about the style of the interior in rooms and elsewhere, but there was simply too much plastic, glass, metal, all different shapes to my taste. More alarmingly, in soppusededly top-notch facility, there were too many 'out of order' signs to me met. All jacuzzis and 30% of showers were out, as an example. Shower area also smelled bad, no question of that.

On the bright(er) side, service was impeccable throughout the stay. View towards the river is really nice and location of the hotel is also good. Restaurants were ok, allthough, once again, the style of the "place to be in Tianjin" bar was way too contemporaty to us (choose Dublin Bar, instead..). Breakfast was ok, nice set-up and good and fast service. I have better cheese selection at home on weekdays, though. You do not need to be Sofitel with cheese stuff, but this was way below par among 5 star facilities. At this level one also finds ofter an espresso machine in the room. Not available here.

I would recommend, perhaps, the hotel for business purposes. We will certainly check something else next time, Astor, Indigo etc.

Room Tip: River view room is the one to go for

The service at this hotel is wonderful, from efficient check-in, to handling inquiries,to check-out. I never had to wait long and everyone I spoke with was bilingual. The room is spacious and had reliable internet, flat-screen tv, some office supplies, typical bathroom amenities, mini-bar, and an in-room coffee press. A/C was locked so that you could not cool down below a certain temperature. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is large with good water pressure; the lighting is low. The room did not have a safe, which would have been convenient, nor did I find a clothes iron.
The gym is open 24/7 and has modern equipment but is hard to find - signage once you get off the lift is poor. (Go into the spa, turn left, wander through a maze of massage rooms until you see a sign for the exercise room and go downstairs.)
Breakfast and lunch buffets were good - a moderate variety of Eastern and Western food of good quality. We were also there for a business meeting and the meeting room and service were excellent, from A/V support, catering, room temperature, set-up and size. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
We did notice that it is hard to hail a cab from the hotel, possibly because of the location on a one-way street. Taxi drivers need to be flagged down and drive out of their way to get to the hotel. It's easier to walk to street level if you are in a hurry.

Room Tip: Choose the river view

I stayed here 3 nights in a Business room with great river view.

The first impression was quite good, friendly service, big TV, clean bathroom. Regrettably it was not possible to open the window in 11th floor, but ok that's not unusal. The light management of the room was a little difficult, often I pressed the buttons by random some time until I found conveniant light.

The restaurant was nice, but they served me the wrong dish. The italian food was ok. At the bar we had some drinks, but the Gin Tonic seemed to be with only a little alcohol.

The only real disadvantage of the hotel is a blinking light at the ceiling of the room. It blinks all the time, and if you don't sleep well because of Jetlag, this thing makes you CRAZY!

Room Tip: ask them to switch of the blinking light.

This is probably one of the best hotels in Tianjin and we had a great time staying there. The hotel is located in a great location right by the river and within walking distance to the Italian district and some great pedestrian streets nearby. We had asked ahead of time for a high floor and we had been pre-blocked on the top floor facing the river which provided a great view.

We had taken the train from Beijing and the hotel is very close by so we took a taxi. Due to the fact the hotel is on a one way street the taxi driver dropped us off at the bottom of the stairs which was a bit inconvenient with the stairs leading up to the main door. Once a bellman noticed we were checking in they immediately offered help with the suitcases which was very helpful. The check in was quick and painless since there was nobody in line and there were many employees ready to serve. Our butler came up to the room with us and gave us a quick tour of the room which was quite nice and offered tea service which we accepted. It took only 5 minutes to receive the tea which was great the relax a bit before heading out.

The room was quite nice as expected for a St.Regis but there seemed to be a bit of wear and tear in the room which kind of surprised. Never the less the room was quite comfortable. The room did have some sort of fire detector which had two lights blinking all night long. After notifying our butler of this he had maintenance cover the lights with black tape.

We went to the pool which is located on the 5th floor and was quite nice. The one complaint I would have from our entire stay would be that the hot tub does not have a button to turn on the jets. You need to contact an employee who then needs to contact maintenance to turn them on. This seems a big waste of time for the employee and is rather annoying for guests. There is also no note by the hot tub which explains this either. We only knew because we asked the gym attendant and he explained he had to call maintenance. The hot tub is also not much warmer then the pool which met we didn't really use it that long. It should be much warmer. Despite this little problem we would definitely return if ever in Tianjin again.

My family were fortunate to win a 2 night stay in the presidential suite over the Christmas break 2012. Upon arrival we were greeted by the head butler who showed us the suite which was jaw dropping in opulence. Upon entering the suite we were greeted by a huge entrance hall, off to the left was a guest room with its own ensuite. Moving on into the main living which was seperated by a grand piano. This room had floor to ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the river. Off to the right was a small pantry equipped with an oven, dishwasher, and Nespresso machine. The only downside was that all the cupboards we empty so we had to call down for cups which took 40 minutes not really acceptable I thought. Next to the kitchen was a low bar to entertain guests. Also there was a huge dinning room table enough to seat 10 people. The second living room had a massive TV which we hooked up to the xbox which the kids benefited from. If you felt like doing some work there was an office with fax machine. The master bedroom was again opulent with a TV and comfortable bed. The bathroom was to die for with a sauna, his and hers spa showers and jucuzzi! The whole suite was run by a IPAD although this did has its draw backs especially when controlling the music as the volume control often took to long to reach the network box and we ended up with it blasting out. I must add the breakfast was so so in terms of food selection and even though it had floor to floor windows all the food is along these windows which in the winter means that the breakfast room is not only cold but so is the food. This was a once in a lifetime stay for us and my family and I had an amazing time I certainly could not aford the £6500 pounds a night but one would expect the internet would be free which it was not for me. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who loves opulence and can aford the prices.
