This restaurant is located near the shopping hub of Xidan, a short stroll of 20-30mins from the subway station. The establishment itself is large and has a large imposing entrance. For a traditional dumpling place, I was expecting something more quaint and low key.
Like many places in China, getting a non smoking seat can take some effort, but in the end we were taken upstairs to a mezzanine like level which they reopened just for us. We ordered several dishes of dumplings, varying from vegetarian to pork options - mainly keeping with the simple and authentic ingredients. Not only were they cheap, but they tasted exceptional. They weren't of the exact preciseness you'd find at Din Tai Fung, but were more home style.
It is a little off the beaten track, but well worth the extra trouble, especially given that food in China can be hit and miss.
