I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks whilst on business in Tianjin. I had high expections as this was a 5 star hotel and to be fair it does not disappoint from a visual or comfort perspective. The lobby, rooms and the building in general was very nice and very well kept, very clean and always fresh.
During my stay there were only a few points which prevented the hotel coming out on top. The first was the language, I found in general poor levels of english and although you would eventually find someone who spoke a good level it would never be the first person and end up in a scurry to find someone who was more comfortable. Appreciate the hotel is in China and compared to the amount of Chinese guests the "Westerners" were few, but still from a 5 Star hotel I would expect better.
Second is the internet. The WiFi is very frustrating in the rooms, slow and connecting automatically when it wants - I had a number of pieces of equipment including laptops etc and all were the same. To be fair the IT Specialist (I think anyway) did come and have a look and all was well for 24hrs, only to return to the same the day after. For a hotel to do business from I found this frustrating and I believe there are other people who have found this - time to do something Westin?
The third was the parking/pick-up area outside. Can get very busy at times and I almost got knocked down a few times - now i know in China this is nothing unusual, but outside the front of my hotel I expect to feel safer and to not have to walk out and almost get knocked over!
Finally, and this is nothing to do with this particular hotel, is the frustrating practise of hotels in China to automatically convert the amount into your local currency, which then cost you extra. When I was checking out I stated that I wanted to pay in RMB however this could not be done as it involved changing the machine (the machine wanted to convert into Euros at an inflated exchange rate) this caused undue delay to my che and frustration at the checkout. It was finally resolved, however the next day.
As I said the above points are minor and are no reason to stay at the hotel - they are just minor frustrations, in some cases not specific to the Westin, which I would expect a 5 Star hotel not to have.
