Stayed over only a night in the hotel but wished i could stay for more nights. The interior of the hotel is fantastic and i really like the home feeling. My room was of a good size and the huge space for the shower area impressed me. The bathtub overseeing the city is another big draw for me. And when it came to breakfast time, the good spread of food really tempted me to eat more than what i should.

I would strongly recommend anyone visiting Tianjin to spend their nights in the hotel and the price is value for money for such a hotel.

We like to visit Tianjin as a weekend retreat from Beijing, and we have stayed at the best hotels there. But the new Raffles has, by far, the most comfortable and largest standard room I have seen in any hotel in China. The 60 square meters is also very nicely layed out, with a chaise, a corner table and couch, and enormous bathroom with huge tub. And the view! 40 stories above Tianjin! I've never found a hotel room I've wanted to lounge around in so much. And the price is extraordinarily reasonable (especially if you use Ctrip or Elong)

The 49th floor restaurant is very fun at night with the band, and their breakfast buffet is fine, although the service was spotty. The first floor lobby is a bit small and not too impressive, but the reception and staff are well trained and helpful. Plus, there's no need for a grandiose lobby when you'll be loving your room so much.

The neighborhood is very busy, right in the middle of Tianjin's major shopping area and just behind a concession area with older European-style housing. So there's plenty to walk to.

Parking is a bit steep at 6RMB an hour, but the free wifi is great.

Overall, it's my favorite hotel in Tianjin. It's very relaxing and classy, with a bustling neighborhood waiting below. And the service, while with some glitches, is about as good as you can get in China these days.

location: in the main business street in the city. some major malls are around. nothing to complain about the location. it is on top of Tianjin Center, a multi functional complex of office bulding, mall, living appartments and this hotel. the lobby is in the ground floor. very large, but all dark colored, it gets really depressing after sitting for a while. i remember that there was a horrible smill in the lobby, there was some construction going next door in the same complex, it might have been becuase of that.

Room: We were booked an executive suite. the layout of the room was really nice. The bathroom was actually elegant and roomy. however, the decoration, either selection of colors or the art work, of the living room is one of the most horrendous i have ever seen. It is a personal taste issue, some might like it, but not for me. there was a free espresso machine which was a nice touch. what i recommend is the bathtub which was just facing a glass wall, where you can enjoy the horizon of the city.

Food: i only had the chance to try the breakfast buffet, which was excellant by all means. it is located in the top level of the hotel, nice view with good selection of food. nothing more to ask for.

overall, i really dont know is it because the hotel was new or something else, it was empty. no sound what so ever, whith all of this dark theme colors. boaring to hell. i dont think i will go again.

Stayed in one of the Executive Rooms at Raffles for a weekend stay. The moment I was met by the driver from the hotel to pick me up from the Tianjin Train station, I knew this is not going to be good. He was not friendly and there was a bottle of opened water in the back seat of the car. It got worse when the car arrived at the hotel, half of the characters were missing from the hotel signage (see picture). The check-in was done at one of the desk in the lobby, but they were not well organized and the desks were really messy with lots of papers on the desktop. We got a room on the 47th floor with a great view for sure, but the room was very dusty upon the first look. Watermarks on the faucet/shower head and even on the glass door of the toilet (smelly toilet too). There is a coffee machine in the room, but there was only decaf coffee in the box, called hotel operator to ask for real coffee and the answer that I got was “I will check with HSKP and will send them up if we have them. They claim they have butler service, but never received any welcome tea or even a butler to come and greet during the stay. They sent in two pears as fruit amenity, but the room service attendant opened the door before we even answered the door.

The Library (executive lounge): We went to the library during happy hour, there was no other guests around. And the white wine wasn’t chilled at all. We asked for more cheese, the attendant had to call someone on the phone and she said “we got guests today, they want more cheese and whom should I call”. I guess she never had other guests there in the lounge? Or no one else ever had cheese there?

The pool and gym: Jacuzzi was out of service, the pool was too cold (26C) and some ceiling lights were broken. There was a poodle of water in the steam sauna when we walked in, very dangerous!

Other review mentioned the rooms were too warm, and it is very true. Our room was over 26C when we check in and after opened the window and let the unit run cool air whole night when we were out for dinner … the room was still over 24C. Very hard to get a comfy night sleep. They simply told us, because the AC is not on yet. Returned to the room after 10pm, and there wasn’t even turn down service offered. We had to call to ask for more drinking water before bed.

The hotel is nicely designed but just sad to see a Raffles hotel became a super local Chinese hotel here in Tianjin.

I stayed at Raffles Tianjin on a business trip for a special rate of 950RMB (£90 a night) inclusive of VAT which I think was a superb rate for a five-star hotel.

The basic Grand Rooms are pretty grand indeed - huge bed, pleasant seating area, large bathroom with separate bath/shower room with a TV and view out over the city. The decor is lovely and the room was spotless. The bed was very, very comfortable too and the view was magnificent. I didn't try the pool or fitness centre, though my colleagues said it looked great.

The hotel itself is gleaming and the staff are very friendly with good English, if perhaps still finding their feet a little as this is still a pretty new addition to the Raffles portfolio. Obtaining a taxi is easy as the staff hail them from the street for you and give the driver instructions.

The SoU restaurant is very nice (I never ate in the others) - and there is an excellent and large choice for breakfast - and the CitySpace bar offers a pretty impressive view as you sip on the fairly expensive drinks (prices are on a par with expensive UK bars, a bottle of Tsingtao for example costing 38RMB).

We also used the Ball Room for a function and it was ideal for the purpose and suitably grand.

This was the first luxury hotel I've stayed in, so I have nothing to compare it with, but I was very impressed and thought the price was excellent for the quality of the accommodation, the ambiance and the staff. If ever I was in Tianjin again, I would splash out and stay in this hotel again.

A good rate is negotiable as the hotel tries to establish a strong customer base and repeat visitors.

Check-in/Check-out
Arrived late at night and the Check-in staff were really good and efficient. The Check-in area has individual desks and large wing backed chairs for the visitors to sit down in comfort whilst going through the Check-in process. It was a very nice and civilised method of checking in compared to the usual bland long bench that you usually get confronted with.

Room Pluses and minuses
This hotel opened officially in June 2010 and still has that “new space” feel about it. I had booked a Grand room that is 60sqm and has a dedicated lounge area, separate bathroom that has a shower room, toilet and robe area with safe all as individual rooms off the main bathroom area. The king bed, flatscreen TV and desk with a hidden well for all the power cords is a nice touch. Electric sheer and block out drapes functionality adds a nice touch. The room also has a 24 hour butler service which I used on a few occasions during the trip and found to be very efficient. The main minus in this room [and others as reported to me from my travelling companions] is the two air conditioning units did not work properly and the lowest temperature I achieved overnight was 24.5 degrees Celsius. This made it very uncomfortable for sleeping. This is obviously a concern recognised by the hotel as the housekeeping staff left open a window each day as the temperature outside was cold. High marks for space, newness and attention to detail. Minuses for ineffective aircon.

Work area/TV/Bathroom
The desk is a good space with a desk light and plenty of power outlets. Apart from the desk chair there is a visitors chair on the other side of the desk which is a nice touch. The free broadband was very fast which helped a lot. The flatscreen TV is a great size and has enough channels to keep most happy. No pay per view movies available though. The bathroom area is the highlight of this room with dual basins and a seated area with large mirror. Off to one side is the wet room that contains a rainforest shower and power shower heads along with a free standing bath that has a waterproof TV at one end. Located at the other end of the bathroom is a separate toilet and also a separate robe that has plenty of hangers and storage along with a good sized safe.

Buffet breakfast
Breakfast was well served with plenty of variety for all types of travellers. The staff are attentive and willing to please. The food is fresh and of a high quality although the Chef had some difficulty cooking an omelette although this is only minor.

Room Service
Room service at this hotel is exceptionally efficient and great quality. I ordered a late evening meal and then at the same time gave an order for a 5:30am breakfast. Both meals arrived exactly on time and [where appropriate] the food was nice and hot. The wait staff who delivered the meals were brilliant, attentive and proactive.

Laundry
I used the laundry service whilst staying here for the three days. All items were picked up, laundered and returned in the same day. The laundry rates are not as high as some hotels I’ve stayed at. All items arrived as I had requested – ie shirts on hangers.

Staff
The staff at the hotel are very eager to please and their level of service is very good. You could not ask for more.

Overall
Great hotel with some really nice quality fitout both in the rooms and in the public spaces. Apart from the air conditioning not working there were two other issues. Firstly the hotel may be regretting the choice of carpet as all guests [including me] experienced static electricity whenever we pushed the call button for the lifts. Not a great drama but disconcerting. I ended up using the corner of my room card to overcome the problem. Also I had organised a sport massage at the Spa but was told when I arrived that the staff had made an error and there was no one there to perform the massage.
4/5 Points

Would I stay again?
Yes, but for those who have visions of Raffles in Singapore you are in for an architectural shock as this hotel is very 21st Century. However they are attempting to achieve the same level of service.
