My wife and I did a trip to Crescent Lake in Lake Clark NP to watch bears do their thing -- being bears and eating salmon! The bear-watching was awesome -- saw three different males, and two females, one with two cubs and one with one cub. We also saw some bird life - herring gulls, least sandpiper, magpies, and a female common goldeneye with 4 little ducklings. The flight was smooth, the guide was knowledgeable. But....BEWARE! -- you are on a boat in a deep lake for five hours and there are no bathroom facilities! Throw in a 35 minute flight each way and you've got six hours without a visit to Uncle John. So *do not* do this if you are taking medication to help you get rid of fluid. However, what was more disturbing to me was the fact that we were flying over water to the site and there was no pre-flight safety talk and no mention of the availability of personal flotation devices. Further, when we all got on the boat at Crescent Lake, there were no personal flotation devices provided! (This is in stark contrast to our jetboat trip up Twentymile River where we were given a thorough safety briefing before starting out, and personal flotation devices were provided and required to be worn!) So...in summary...fabulous bear viewing...little to no consideration for comfort and safety!

We had a fantastic experience watching bears on Crescent Lake! After a beautiful plane trip past Mt. Redoubt to the turquoise lake, our guide Bill expertly navigated the 6 of us around the lake where we saw at least 8 different groups of bears (some singles and others sows with cubs). This was a good time for finding bears given the returning sockeye salmon; we were entertained by the ease of older bears trapping salmon as well as one younger mother (with 2 cubs) working hard to catch a single fish. Bill provided great color in describing the habits and behaviors of brown bears.

Imagine taking off in a float plane flying over a glacier, landing on a mountain lake and then taking off on john boats to a secluded creek. Your children catch 3 lb sock eye salmon while up to 10 black or brown bears saunter and swim to within 10 feet of the boat ignoring you. Your guide then cooks the salmon you caught on the boat and you eat it for lunch while you watch bald eagles landing in their nests. You then catch a float plane back civilization as if you were catching a taxi. This is the experience of a lifetime for the family. If you do one trip do this one. Wolverine creek trip with Talon air was first class as are their guides. Thank you Ryan for an amazing day !

Since we were visiting Alaska in July we definitely wanted to incorporate bear viewing into our trip if possible. After much research we decided to do with Talon Air. From the first inquiry through the end of our trip the staff at Talon were great. The correspondence was timely and thorough, even when we had to switch days of our trip, they were helpful and accommodating. We could not have had a more perfect day in terms of weather as well which was a bonus!

We decided on just the bear viewing, not fishing, so we could focus on photo / video and our guide, Rusty, was also a photographer so my husband definitely enjoyed talking 'gear' with him. Besides the bears, the people that were fishing were just as entertaining! There were so many fish and they were so active that I loved watching the people hook, net and get them in the boat.

We saw a black bear, a male brown bear and then a mother with two cubs. They were quite active during the time we were there and I got some great video at the end of our trip of the bear catching a fish. The flight was also comfortable with amazing scenery. Booking with Talon Air was the perfect choice!

From the moment I picked up the phone to reserve our trip to the moment we drove out of their parking lot after the trip, the experience was a 10+++. Cindy and Taylor were incredibly helpful with things we will need for our trip, appropriate clothing, snacks. Everything. They were friendly and greatbtontalknto about Alaska. The booking was easy. They fill up fast so make sure you keep that in mind when you want to book.

The flight was awesome. Not bumpy and not long. About 30 minutes. I actually wish it were longer. We flew over cook inlet and glaciers. The pilot flew in between some beautiful mountain ranges. Mark, our guide on the boat was the best guide in any tour we have ever taken. He was patient with our 9 and 11 year old, he was informative, he showed us a couple of nice waterfalls and just great to talk to. The black bears put on a great show for us. They would come ap close and were always there. No browns but what can you do? We are a family varying in ages from 9 to 74 and it wad appropriatwefor all. I would go back for sure! BTW, the best price out there which helps!
