My wife and I did a trip to Crescent Lake in Lake Clark NP to watch bears do their thing -- being bears and eating salmon! The bear-watching was awesome -- saw three different males, and two females, one with two cubs and one with one cub. We also saw some bird life - herring gulls, least sandpiper, magpies, and a female common goldeneye with 4 little ducklings. The flight was smooth, the guide was knowledgeable. But....BEWARE! -- you are on a boat in a deep lake for five hours and there are no bathroom facilities! Throw in a 35 minute flight each way and you've got six hours without a visit to Uncle John. So *do not* do this if you are taking medication to help you get rid of fluid. However, what was more disturbing to me was the fact that we were flying over water to the site and there was no pre-flight safety talk and no mention of the availability of personal flotation devices. Further, when we all got on the boat at Crescent Lake, there were no personal flotation devices provided! (This is in stark contrast to our jetboat trip up Twentymile River where we were given a thorough safety briefing before starting out, and personal flotation devices were provided and required to be worn!) So...in summary...fabulous bear viewing...little to no consideration for comfort and safety!
