We had a great guide who provided a wonderful tour and great information on these prehistoric mammals. A guy from VA saved them from extinction, thankfully. They shed their fur in the spring and local Alaskan natives create beautiful hats and scarves which are available for purchase. It's pricey but a portion supports the non-profit farm and a portion goes back to the artist whose talent may be lost otherwise. The ox come very close to the fence so you get a real good look at them. They have an exhibit available indoors that shares lots of information about these fascinating animals. We learned that Alex Trebec of Jeopardy is a huge supporter of the farm but the proceeds from ticket sales are extremely important as again, this is a non-profit farm.

Alaska... the biggest state. Muskox Farm in Palmer... the biggest rip off/joke in Alaska! Way over priced. The five minute spiel that the tour guide gave was informative regarding the muskox but she was very insensitive toward Alaskan Natives! Rude in fact. If the road was near the fields, you could see the muskox as well or BETTER from there than you can when you pay the admission price and take the "walking tour." In one direction we saw two male muskox about 150 yards out in the field; in another direction we saw several calves in the field and one finally came over to the fence when the tour guide offered her some grass but we were told not to touch it or feed it; the females were 200-300 yards away and that's as close as we could get. We (all seven of us) and all but one person in the tour group were highly disappointed and will never return or suggest that anyone go there. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT THIS LOUSY TOUR! IT'S A BIG WASTE OF YOUR $$$ AND TIME!

We arrived very close to closing time and we were originally told the last tour of the day was already out. I asked if we could just take a an abbreviated tour since we would probably not ever be back in the area. The young lady behind the counter was not very encouraging, but once the manager came back in with the tour group, she did not hesitate in giving us the entire tour! There is a wealth of info to read before going outside and then what a treat to get to see the musk ox in person. There were seven babies and we even got to feed the yearlings grass through the fence. Great event and good to know these gentle giants are being so well taken care of.

A fun hour spent viewing musk ox of all ages! They are farmed for their wool, Qiviut - apparently 8 times warmer than sheep's wool for the weight. Several cute baby musk ox!
Informative museum and natural history to read up on before or after the tour.
Our guide was fun. I probably learnt more about musk ox from watching David Attenborough shows on telly and the museum itself but it was good to get out and see bulls rutting, mothers and babies as well as yearlings looking relaxed in a picturesque Alaskan environment.
$11 per adult. Money goes back into the farm. The Qiviut is sold to Native Alaskan co-operatives to knit into garments. Good stuff!

I learned a lot about Musk Oxen and enjoyed seeing them up close. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We had a coupon for 1 free admission with a paid admission, which made this a good value.
