Hubby and I stayed here last minute and it was just dandy. The bar atmosphere is brilliant - albeit a bit slow. We had a motel room which was expensive but fine - there's actually some effort put into the decor (appreciated!). There was music on and loads of young (20-something) people dancing their hearts out in the pavilion. Loads of fun even if we 30-somethings felt like old farts. It was nice to stay a bit outside of Seward one night and then one night in Seward. The lake itself is beautiful.

Room Tip: I would stay in the motel just because of noise issues. If you don't want to party with the enti...

We stop in Moose Pass every summer and see the folks at Trail Lake Lodge. Go in Hungry and get the Grub Steak Burger! My wife had. A salad that was great, fresh greens. There is a full bar and good beer selection.

I also recommend going when they have a music venue. We saw Hobo Jim there one and it was great!

While Moose Pass is small there are a number of folks that live back in the woods in the area. The community comes to the lodge for evening meals and drinks. You'll meet miners, forest service workers, bush pilots, hatchery employees.

Just a fun place to slow down, grab a beer and a burger and meet folks.

The Kenai was the last part of our month long tour in AK. The Lodge looks great from the internet ads and drive-up. We had 3 nights booked in advance. Our room was basic & clean, but offerred no hot water for day 1 and day 2. Finally hot on the last day, despite many calls to managment. No coffee available at the lodge or in the small town until 8:00 AM. so we ended up leaving every morning and driving 20 miles for coffee and breakfast.
Next visit we will skip any stops in Moose Pass.

If you read the other reviews of Trail Lake Lodge you'll know what to expect. This isn't a Marriott, it's a small and simple lodge. Our room included a queen size bed, a sofa bed and a twin bed. The sink and vanity are outside the bathroom and the shower/toilet in its own small space. Everything was clean and sanitary. The room itself was a bit noisy but mostly when other guests were walking by or leaving in the morning (yes, at 5 am). The TV gets four channels and none of the content is appropriate for kids (just an FYI for you, not a complaint). The service at check-in was welcoming and friendly and the breakfast we had in the morning was good. So while the accommodations may look a bit dated and its not the quietest place you can stay, for one night, the Trail Lake Lodge was just fine for our family.

Ok, so you're in Moose Pass Alaska and you need somewhere to stay... your choices would be the Trail Lake Lodge and... yup, the Trail Lake Lodge! So, that being the case, I guess they can afford to charge you an arm and a leg for a less than stellar motel room! If we had paid $50-60 for the room, we'd be writing a glowing review... but for $109... hard to encourage you to spend your cash here!
That being said, the folks were friendly, and the food & atmosphere at the restaurant/bar were great, so it's not all bad.
But in Alaska, where everything costs a fortune and cancellation policies are iron-clad, I would not recommend staying here - stay the night in Seward (also pricey, but at least a town) or push up to Girdwood, and just grab a bite here on the road.

We were in the area for a family vacation and stayed here for five nights. We could not ask for a better time. The room was clean and had a great view of the lake. The staff especially Doug were beyond accommodating. They were cheerful, friendly, funny and attentive. We ate in the lodge for almost one meal a day (breakfast, lunch or dinner) and found the food fresh and tasty. We loved how the whole atmosphere made you relax and switch into a less hectic pace. Kids liked to walk around the grounds and to sit on the back porch and watch the float planes take off and land. Best location around for exploring Seward, Copper's Landing, etc. Great hikes and, of course, fishing. We'd love to come back! Doug's a great guide too.Thank you Doug and everyone!

Room Tip: We stayed in the lodge rooms.

Stayed here as part of a group. It's not bad, because we were busy doing other things. It's true that the tv only gets 3 channels, but in spite of the rain, we were not there for the tv. Generally the management and restaurant people were ok, but really a bit of a lackadaisical attitude; not really sure if they knew what the concept of "customer service" is all about. The area is beautiful, however, and the food supplied to our group in the "pavillion" was ok to good. The room was small, but certainly serviceable, and clean.

Room Tip: Good luck.
