“Romantic Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

My husband and I recently bought our first house and needed a romantic weekend getaway to relax. I have stopped at Summit Lake Lodge for their delicious ice cream many times over the years on trips to and from Seward, Kenai, or Homer. We had talked about staying a weekend there, and finally got the chance to do so. The scenery is amazing and we had a nice walk around the lake to the state campground on the other side - about a 2-mile round trip. The food at the lodge was much higher quality than the burger and salad menu we expected. My husband had a delicious rib eye steak and we shared a coconut prawn appetizer. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the cabin was. We rented the Gold Rush cabin, which came with a king size bed, big screen TV with satellite channels, a shower room, separate restroom, and vanity area. These areas were all beautifully tiled with modern accents. This really surprised us and sealed the deal - we will come back!

I couldn't say enough good about Summit Lake Lodge. Our cabin was absolutely wonderful, everyone was helpful and went out of their way to make our stay special and the food was excellent. The free breakfast was superb-Bluebery pancakes were yummy. The setting on the lake was beautiful plus its a great location.
We would most defintitely recommend it to others.

Room Tip: The cabins are great!

I agree with all the reviews praising the Summit Lake Lodge experience. It was one of the best stops on our 10 day motorcycle vacation. Nice cabin, great food, excellent service and of course priceless peaceful scenery. I can not imagine why anyone would ever rate this below excellent.

We chose the lodge from an internet search for price; guess we got what we paid for. The lodge room is tinty, but very clean and the setting is just lovely. It would have been nice to have internet available in the rooms since nearly all travelers have to use it at some point. And nearly any lodging provides personal amenities such as shampoo and hair dryer, but not here though they did provide a hair dryer when asked. The guests next to us were very noisy into the night and there isn't much sound barrier between rooms.

The staff and hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The halibut on my salad Nicoise was delicious and perfectly cooked, but the rest of the salad was not very good. My husband's burger was fine. The wine was excellent and well-priced. Breakfast, included with the reservation, was tasteless. Too bad since it would have been nice to start the day's adventure in a better way.

Room Tip: It would probably be worth the extra $ to get a cabin rather than a lodge room.

The cabin (#5) was just very nice..

Only one complaint the inclusive breakfast was my only issue it is served at 8AM to 9AM and thats it... so if your on vacation and not an early riser, plan ahead for breakfast because there is no other option until lunch time... but you could always sleep till 11!

We came up for a wedding at the Tern Lake Inn and were so pleased with our accomodations at Summit Lodge. Didn't know what to expect in such a rural area, but we absolutely loved it. The innkeepers were fantastic and the breakfast was the best breakfast we have had anywhere. When we arrived at 10 pm the bar was just closing and having traveled many hours from the states of SC, NJ and MA we were looking for some food and drink. Henry the bartender kept the bar open for us to unwind before going to our beautiful and modern cabins. We would definitely recommend the lodge to anyone traveling the beautiful kenai peninsula in Alaska.

Found this place on the Alaska app. Decided in the early am to stay here the same night, so called up and no problem getting a place. Got in just as dinner was ending and the fantastic "innkeepers" we're nice enough to serve us a hearty, tasty meal complete with desert. We stayed in a cabin for one night and our only complaint was that we did not stay longer. The cabin (nicer than most hotel rooms, or our first apartment for that matter) was big, impeccably clean, and with every decorating detail in mind (from lamps to wall hangings to toilet paper dispenser...wonderfully wilderness). The owner also took the time to show us how the tv and heater worked and was pleasantly chatty the next morning over the best breakfast we had in all of Alaska. We delayed our planned sightseeing for the morning to wander around the peaceful lake and enjoy an icecream with "Henry" the furry and friendly lodge dog. Overall the perfect Alaskan hospitality experience.
