I stayed in Kodiak for most of the spring/early summer of 2011. This is one of my favorite haunts--several very easy hikes with well marked paths. Also, several places where you can wander off the path and have some peace. Plenty of tables and fire pits for day use and camping sites for overnights. The only drawback that I noticed was that when the cruise ships came in on Sunday (but I think it was only 1-2x/month) all the tourists flocked to this park.

We have been when the military museum was open. It was not on this trip, BUT the weather was great - little wind - and the trails are great for just walking - enjoying the location - ocean - birds - other islands.

Took the ferry with our car, pitched a tent in a campground, fished for salmon and kept a wary eye out for the infamous kodiak bears. It was misty rainy and cool(60's). saw no bears but I'm sure they knew we were there. Campground host said a few had been spotted in campground, we just didn't see them. Went to a winery on the island and bought some very different wines. Spent 3 days on the island and was definately worth it.
