First day excursion we took on our Alaska cruise. Really good start and introduction to Alaska and its wildlife. We got great views of eagles and their nests; the lighthouse was cool to look at. Good running commentary. Would have liked to have spent a bit of time on the shore looking at the totem poles close up. As someone else said, the hot chocolate is great. The salmon spread is also tasty. Also a nice motor tour of Ketchikan. One word of warning: make sure you know where and when to meet the tour (we almost missed ours). Call in advance.

What an incredible tour. You see historic sites and wildlife with scenic rugged Alaska as a backdrop. The boat captain is friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent host. His narration is closely choreographed to the historic sites and wildlife as he spots it and directs passengers to the exact position of the sighting. The tour provides binoculars to use and the boat is heated. Both liquid refreshments and snacks are provided as part of the tour. The crew was very polite and helpful. Wildlife sightings were abundant. Captain Rob shares anecdotes about various landmarks during the tour. I highly recommend this excursion!

Princess Cruises recommended this excursion and we are so thankful to have chosen this boat trip. Captain Rob is extremely knowledgeable, and his running commentary informative and humorous. He spotted and exactly described where we could see many eagles and their nests. We were able to approach close to eagles and seals, the lighthouse and a good view of the Totem poles and homes of the rich and famous. The refreshments were delicious.

This was an Inside Passage Alaskan cruise shore excursion. It was approximately three hours of slow cruising looking for eagles and their nests. After a while, it was difficult to get too excited about spotting, yet again another nest. "If you have seen one eagle's nest, you have seen them all."

The Bight Totem Park was also viewed, but at such a distance that none of the totems could be seen in any detail. The alaska.org website states---"Lighthouse, Totems and Eagles Excursion is the only tour company that can access Ketchikan's famed Totem Bight State Park from the water." I thought "access" meant that we would be going ashore to see the totem poles and learn their history.

A portion of the cruise consisted of stories about the people who live in the houses along the shore. I remember one was a urologist and another who has decorated her yarn with bowling balls. We did see the lighthouse. The captain is very pleasant, filled with corny humor and at one point played the trombone! The salmon dip is excellent! In hindsight, I would not book this excursion...three hours is too long...and I did not feel there were enough interesting things to fill the time.

It is always fascinating to hear some of the bad reports on the very same tour as you hear good reports on. Rarely do you hear a complaint from someone who says they brought these complaints to the attention of the captain or crew and they did absolutely nothing to correct a situation. On the other had we feel every complaint MUST have SOME basis of fact so we do read them and take them seriously as a means of improving our excursion each and every day out. That is probably why we have earned the C.R.U.I.S.E. Award "Tour Guide of the Year" every year for 10 years in a row.

This past month I heard from several guests and some of their comments you may find interesting. Ella W. said, “The captain and crew were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We saw many eagle + nest. The crew took our pictures, helped me with my camera and provided delicious food snacks. The homemade salmon did was out of this world delicious. The captain and crew were very child centered allowing anyone to steer the boat as they took their picture. Betty G. said, “We were a party of 9 - ranging in age 12 to 74- We all enjoyed seeing everything, especially the Eagles! Out tour guide provided Binoculars and snacks and drinks and wonderful history of the area. He spotted the eagles and nests so easily! And another guest wrote, “The Capt. was fantastic!! Honestly, he provided us with an absolutely amazing tour. He is an extremely knowledgeable guide with mountains of history he is capable of sharing in a delightful manner. He appropriately points out important landmarks and has stories to go along with them. He knows where all the eagles are and encourages his riders to look for them & get photos. He is the best! So glad we were on his boat ! ! Terrific Tour ! ! So maybe our efforts to improve are paying off. Please come and join us for a tour that delivers beyond your expectations where you can have your pictures taken in front of the Totem Park AND in front of the Guard Island Lighthouse.
